“Fantastic cottage in a beautiful area.”
Reviewed September 22, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this beautifully kept modern barn conversion for the second year running. We were given a very warm welcome by the owners and my 2 children aged 8 and 11 really enjoyed playing with their son. We visited Ilam Park, the Manifold Trail, Coombes Valley (RSPB), Bakewell to Hassop station for walks and good food. We also made a longer trip to Twycross Zoo. The cottage is very comfortable and has a great garden for the children to play in.

“Fantastic accommodation in a fantastic location.”
Reviewed September 16, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Visited at the end of the Summer school holidays with my 10 year old son. Without doubt the best accommodation of its type I've had the pleasure of staying in the UK. This was echoed by my son who didn't want to leave and wants to return!!
The barn conversion is of a high quality (modern whilst retaining the old features) and contains all that you would require, including a really well stocked kitchen. Good downstairs space, comfy beds, proper shower. Spacious outdoor seating area overlooked by some interested sheep!! ...and a working gas barbecue.
Neil and Dorota are excellent hosts and were keen to ensure we were happy and have all we need. The children were very welcoming to my son and keen to show off the farm, Barney in particular is a very good farm tour guide!
The meat available from the farm is of a high quality and I thoroughly recommend purchasing (both when there for the barbecue and on departure).
The farm / barn is situated in a lovely peaceful spot, but with easy access to a wide variety of activities, places to visit and many picturesque walks. Kayaking down the River Derwent was our favourite amongst a week of highlights.
I can't recommend this place enough.

“Stunning accommodation, wonderful hosts, excellent location, this is the place to stay!”
Reviewed July 30, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We had never stayed on a farm before, so where a little apprehensive, how wrong could we be! From the moment we arrived, we fell in love with the area, the views are absolutely stunning. The accommodation itself was immaculate, a rustic, homely feel, with a modern twist. A lovely family running the farm, always available if needed, and willing to show how the farm works, from looking after the chickens, to shearing the sheep. The location is perfect for whatever you are looking to do, we visited Bakewell and Dovedale to name a few, which were not far at all. There are plenty of cycling and walking opportunities straight from the farm. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

“Brilliant.”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My wife and I took our 4 year old child tothis working farm. We were apprehensive about the working bit and exploring 4 year olds etc... but we needn't have worried. It is all very safe and secure. The accommodation was absolutely fantastic. The beds are wonderfully cosy. It is all extremely clean and very well maintained. It looks to me like Neil and Dorota are looking to move in there themselves in years to come which gives you an idea of how well furnished / decorated it is. The shower in the bathroom is superb! There is a large TV with all range of channels. The kitchen is brand new and really well equipped. The accommodation really can't be faulted.
On our stay we had a chaffinch that was constantly headbutting the kitchen window in an effort to clear its 'rival' off! We had a sheep and 2 lambs in the nursery field behind the accommodation watching television with us in the evenings through the window!!
Neil and Dorota themselves were fantastic. Both invited us in for tea and biscuits at the end of the stay. They have their own meat from their own cattle / pigs / sheep etc... I shop at my good local butchers because the meat is far superior to any supermarket brand - their meat is on a par and I am sorry to say that their bacon is better than mine at home!
The children showed my very eager to learn child all around the farm and that included the hens too.
The comments book in the accommodation is a true testament to Fernyford farm. couldn't recommend it enough.
Locally for the children, we spent an entire day at Matlock Bath , Gullivers travels - book on line for better prices. The local reservoirs made a good day out walking too. We called in on lego land at the Trafford Centre on our way home. that was ok but can't spend a full day there perhaps 2-3 hours like we do is enough.

“Perfect Weekend”
Reviewed July 7, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We had such a brilliant time on the farm, the accommodation is like a 5 star hotel but mainly for us being able to spend time with the belties and swales was so special. We helped look after the animals, feed them and see them born! Also the local chippy is amazing! If you love animals and the beautiful countryside you must stay here! The owners are lovely and welcoming and we were so happy they let us get involved with farming life, we will definitely be staying again.
