For years we have used Alpine Lodge for business clients and they all love it. As soon as you walk in, you can see that it is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and maintained. The rooms are tasteful and comfortable and the breakfasts are delicious. Clients feel welcome and relaxed there.

We decided to stay overnight after visiting the theatre and dining out as part of birthday celebrations. We couldn't have chosen better. Other reviewers have said it all - It was great and really added to our enjoyment of our brief escape from everyday life!

Can't recommend this place enough. The bedroom was fantastic, such a comfortable bed after a long day's bike riding, and all the facilities one would expect were there. The beautiful bathroom was huge, and perfect for unwinding in. The proprietor is so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and we felt welcome the whole time. It's located in just the right place, not too close to the centre of town to be noisy, but easy walking distance to anywhere in Buxton.

Room Tip: Room 6 was the shizzle!

We chose this guest house after reading the other Trip Adviser reviews, and indeed, it is a lovely old Victorian property, sympathetically renovated to provide accommodation over two upper floors. Everything was spotlessly clean, and tea and coffee making facilities were very welcome in the bedrooms. Our landlady was a lovely person, very friendly and informative, helping us to make the most of our visit (which was to visit the operetta festival in the town for three performances). My gripes would centre on 1) the fact that our top floor room had only a velux window, so no view, 2) the walk up from the town was extremely steep, and then the 34 stairs to our top floor room just about finished me off (I have spinal stenosis and maybe should have made this clear before booking!) Walking down into town was very easy and took only about 10 minutes, to find a goodvariety of restaurants, shops etc.

The breakfasts were very adequate with quite a lot of choice, and the beds comfortable with top-quality linen etc.

I would just say that if you have any kind of disability, you should seriously consider before booking this accommodation, purely due to the location almost on top of a steep hill, and the fact that all rooms have access via stairs. We were lucky to have a walk-in shower, as I would never have been able to get in the (very deep) bath, and certainly not get out of it!

Parking is very limited; we were lucky and got a space on the drive, and as we didn't actually use our car during our 4-day stay, we didn't have a problem, but apparently the parking wardens in Buxton are really hot on illegal and overstay parking!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the first floor if you want any kind of a view.

My husband and I have just returned from a weekend in Buxton, the Alpine Lodge is a beautiful Victorian house in a quiet residential area of Buxton, it is within easy walking distance of everything Buxton has to offer. Jean made us very welcome and is herself a delight. Our room was large and lovely, immaculate throughout with crisp white sheets to curl up in. The breakfast was excellent, we went for the full English cooked to perfection, we could not fault the Alpine Lodge don't hesitate just book.

We decided to go to buxton for the day , weather was good so decided to stay overnight . we looked on google and found this guest house listed , not expecting to find a vacancy we rang , and was answered by a lovely lady , who was very accomodating, she had a vacancy and we went along. WOW !!!! so glad we did , this 4 Star guest house was lovely, beautifull views , exceptionally well decorated and very clean , warm and welcoming.
We had a fantastic night , lovely clear skies , and peace an quiet.Jean the landlady was so friendly, nothing was to much trouble for her , we were made very welcome in her lovely home.
Breakfast was 1st class , plenty of choice , and cooked to perfection.
We will certainly be going back again for a longer stay. Recomend to anyone in the area for a 1st class stay and very warm welcome, in my opinion better than a 5 star hotel.
Thanks jean X

As a couple travelling from the South of England we called ahead on the morning of our trip to check whether the roads were clear in Buxton as weather reports were bad. The owner informed us that the main roads were fine. As we neared Buxton the roads were clearly NOT fine and were so BAD in fact that they were featured on national news!(see link below)

We were forced to turn back by the weather to our disappointment. We called the lodge to inform them. We spent the next 6 weeks arguing over a refund which they initially promised to us. Numerous LONG phone calls were made via Expedia however the Alpine Lodge simply did not want to know.

We were bitterly disappointed by this and felt let down as we had high hopes for the trip. The owners showed little empathy towards our situation despite our efforts to make the trip go ahead.
