“Victorian Pavilion”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

The Pavilion is a superb example of Victorian architecture. It incorporates a colourful and well stocked conservatory which includes a fishpond with a poignant tale about Boris the goldfish. There is a gallery selling various works of art, and a nice restaurant. The gardens surrounding the Pavilion are quite extensive and provide a long and interesting walk. There is also a miniature railway but it was not operating on the day of our visit.

Thank you for your comments on our Trip Advisor page.

It’s great that you mention so many aspects of the Pavilion Gardens, from the great structural mix of Iron & Glass works across the main building to retail and refreshment options inside.

The miniature train operates at weekends and in school holidays however if the weather is wet or too cold a decision is made on the day so it is always best to call in advance of your visit.

Thanks again for your comments.

Best regards

“worth the walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

On a recent trip to the Peak District we chose to stay in Buxton as our base. One sunny day, rather than drive to any of the nearby attractions we walked into "town". We were not aware of the Pavilion Gardens until we came upon them after taking a turn along the Broadwalk where we had spotted some lovely old buildings. The stroll along the Broadwalk with the buildings one side and the beautiful gardens the other was unexpected but wonderful. Upon entering the extremely well maintained gardens we were confronted with family groups picnicing around the pond, couples sitting absorbing the setting and children (and adults) enjoying a ride on the minature train. We purchased our own picnic at the kiosk and joined the throng.
Although the Gardens were restored about 10 years ago you still feel you are stepping back in time. An unplanned, special event on our holiday.

“Lovely anytime of year”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

It was on October 12th 2013 that we talk a wet walk through the gardens and even in the rain it was lovely. I felt that I had stepped back in time to the beginning of the 20th Century, with the beautiful period street lamps running to the side of the gardens, which are beautifully tended to.

Towards the centre of the gardens there is a lovely children’s play area and a couple of ornate little bridges taking you over a small pond full of ducks. We had a little walk around the pavilion but it was very packed full of people due to a craft fair and the rain keeping everyone inside. We were going to look at the orangery and all the tropical plants, but there was a wedding taking place as well this day. Even with all the rain, the band was occupying the bandstand and kept playing.

A lovely lake as well and I can imagine this will be a lovely walk whatever the season, so beautiful.
