We took our 4 year old and 18 month old child to Poole's Cavern. The caves themselves are very interesting and well worth a visit. Unfortunately our 18 month old was in a "talkative" mood, and although we hung to the back of the group due to this, about half way in, the guide threatened us with having to leave as he "couldn't hear himself think". The noise wasn't loud enough that he couldn't be heard, and I'd be surprised if it was anything out of the ordinary in his experience. It's impossible to silence very young children - I hate to think what the reaction would have been if he had a crying child. His patter was well rehearsed, clear and loud - I just thought his reaction to a child making a bit of noise was a bit immature. So we spent the rest of the tour terrified that we would cross his threshold, and regretting our visit. Paying £17.60 to be judged is no fun.
