I booked the Kings Croft Guest house for one night due to a wedding that I was attending in June 2014. The gentleman who took the booking knew about the wedding and took our reservation.
We turned up at the B&B at 6.00pm ( a very reasonable time), having attended the church wedding and the reception at the Palace Hotel. I rang the bell a few times.....no one turned up. I then rang the number on the door. The person answering the phone took my name and then proceeded to tell me that he tried to call me at 1pm - when incidentally I was at the church and could not take any calls - and because he had received no reply, he gave the room to someone else and there were no other vacancies!!! If he was unsure about the booking, surely he could have contacted us days ago. He didn't really care where we went and the customer service had the distinct 'Fawlty Towers' whiff about it.
I have never experienced this in my life before. Luckily, someone at the wedding heard my plight and I managed to stay in someone elses's house!
