“Georgian elegance, but...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

Called here twice recently, ideally situated in centre of what is probably the most beautiful town in north-west England. Excellent food, polite attentive service, interesting teapot collection, and lovely Georgian/Regency elegance...BUT...THE BELLS...as I sat in close proximity to the door on both occasions, I began to feel very much like Quasimodo must have felt after just 10 minutes. Please, please, take down that hideous doorbell and replace it with a gentle windchime-effect bell...my companion Esmeralda was also similarly afflicted. Do that, and I'll give you a full five...

“An elegant lunch and afternoon tea spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2012

We spotted this through the rain, and decided to try it for a light lunch. Lovely comfortable place, with open fires, and is obviously one of the must-visit places to eat in historic Buxton. We had a good lunch, the spicy tomato soup was lovely and warming, and my husband's sandwiches, with accompanying garnish, including crisps, went down a real treat. The staff were friendly and attentive. It's a most elegant spot in which to spend time. We liked it so much we went back later on for afternoon tea. Next time we're in Buxton we'll go back and try their morning coffee!

“Elegant and relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

Called in on the offchance as the nearby Pavillion was too noisy and busy for my taste.
An elegant little tea room with nice open fires. The bigger snacks around £8 each though some are more expensive.
We just had tea for 2 with cinamon toast and some crumpets with jam and it was £9 total for the two of us. It's about the same price as Costa down the high street, but much nicer surroundings and really pleasant staff.
Love the open coal fires and will certainly visit again in future.

“Typically British”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

Had a lovely lunch with friends - very cold, wet day outside, but inside this beautifully restored tea rooms log fires were lit and everyone was in good spirits.

The goats cheese and red onion quiche (the daily special) was superb with crispy pastry (no soggy bottoms here!) with lots of both ingredients.

Good service from very young staff made for a pleasant way to spend an hour on a soggy Derbyshire day

“My favourite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2012

I absolutely love No 6. It is a quaint little eatery under the arches across from the Buxton Opera House. Suitable for morning coffee, afternoon tea, brunch & lunch. There is a good sized menu with a specials board and the food is lovely and freshly sourced from local businesses. Although it might be a little bit more expensive compared to others in this area it is well worth a visit if you are in the area. If you are having the afternoon tea I would advise sharing one as my friend and I couldn't manage all ours, or make sure you are really hungry! You can also reserve a table which is helpful when its busy. I love the bell over the door, the teapots and the open fire in the winter.
