I stayed at the Old Hall in July during the Buxton Festival. The room was great with a lovely 4 poster bed. Breakfast was great as was the lunch we had in the wine bar during our stay. The hotel is ideally situated, very central opposite the park. All of the staff in the hotel were very pleasant and helpfull. Really enjoyed our stay there.

Quite expensive, room not very clean (e.g. skit-marks on the wall next to the toilet), hotel breakfast was poor (not many yoghurts, pastries were initially not available, asked for well-cooked egg, which was still runny, poor presentation of food, service very slow). Staff friendly. Good central location. Would not recommend Wine Bar for meals (too oily).

We found this hotel by driving past and were very glad we stayed. Our room was large, though rather dowdy and the bathroom was functional, though again rather old! The food in the wine bar was delicious and good value. The service also good. We would definitely stay again, if in that area.

The public rooms are indead a bit shabby but our bedroom was very comfortable and pleasant. ( We had paid extra to have a larger room.)
The staff were efficient and helpful.
The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
We ate once in the Wine Bar and thought that the food was reasonable value for money.
The big plus for this hotel is its wonderful position. The minus is that you have to pay £3 per 24 hours for parking.
I would definitely go back to this hotel again. I developed an affection for the quirkiness of it.

I can't find anything positive to say about this hotel. We were booked to stay two nights, but left after the first night. We had to sleep with the windows open because of the smell in the room. We were told we could get wi-fi in our room which we could not so had to go down to the lounge. It was conveniently located near the gardens. Breakfast was fine and the staff was helpful, but not a place I would go back to.

Great hotel, good food, friendly staff, good location. Only negative comment is noise from a wedding party that kept us awake until 2.00 a.m. Have stayed at other hotels and know that this can be a problem.

I loved this hotel, which is full of character and is in a superb location opposite the Opera House.

Once we found the reception desk, which is along a corridor, past the tea lounges, the check in was quick and efficient.

Our room was petite, with a small double bed, but beautifully decorated and comfortable. Along with the usuals, the hospitality trays included hot chocolate, organic herbal teas and home-baked biscuits. The bathroom was clean and functional, but lacked any luxury about it.

The hotel has several lounges and bars, all of which could be used as a setting for a Jane Austen novel.

Breakfast was fabulous; a continental buffet, and hot meals a' la carte, the menu for which included everything from poached haddock to highland oats to a regular fry up, with a vegetarian option. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg, which was lovely.

Buxton is a beautiful place and I look forward to going again.
