My wife and I arrived later in the afternoon to nice carpeted creaky floors, very victorian feel as you enter the building. Had option of lift or stairs up to the 2nd floor, nicely decorated. The room was very clean with a mixture of modern and victorian fittings. Tea & Coffee making facilities (nice biscuits). Two nice looking victorian seats in the room but not very comfortable (hard wood digging into my back. Bed was large and one of the more comfortable that i've slept in and the bed is the one thing i always notice as being uncomfortable generally, not in this case. The pillows and bed/bath linen were perfect too. The bathroom was very well kitted out however the shower looked powerful but was more of a drizzle to be honest it was a little stronger just cold (alright if you're scandinavian). Had a meal in the restaurant which was very nice, highly recommended (i would like to say a special thank you to Elenor who was so nice and helpful and very hard working). Also had a few drinks in the bar which was very comfortable and with nice sofa's and armchairs. Breakfast was top notch, full choice of everything you could possibly want. Kept me going for the rest of the day. To sum up, you wouldn't go far wrong staying at this hotel, friendly helpful staff, clean and tidy

Arrangements regarding the room and refreshment for the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust AGM on Saturday 9th October 2010 were impeccable.

The turn out was very good, with several people who have been a few times commenting on the number of new faces, which was down to us choosing Buxton in the North of the county.

Staff great, really friendly and helpful. Bed OMG one of the best; large (queen/king and sooo comfortable. Bathroom good finish and stylish, but usual mold build up in corner needed bleach. Style wise they have very strange sofa and chairs in room. The food is fantastic but very expensive for Derby - London prices, but excellent (except the double fried chips, which they didn't charge me for). Smoking area out side, but no heating, and its cold up north, they need to look after ALL their customers.

A super hotel delicious breakfast with vast choice, our room was large & the furnishings inside the room was stunning could not fault our stay. Staff were friendly and very welcoming our visit was for the theatre which was close by, we would stay again at Lee Wood as it ticks all the boxes for a great stay.

Although not a horrendous experience, I personally wouldn’t recommend staying at the Lee Wood, Buxton, that said, I would recommend eating at the Elements Restaurant, as the evening meal was very good.
If you plan to stay there it would be wise to check whether you would be staying within the main hotel building or the Annexe. The Annexe appears to be part of someone’s home and requires you going down a narrow path, past the garage and round the back of the house. The Annexe also entails a walk right around the hotel to access the dining facilities and if the weather is not very clement it’s an inconvenience. (We were told you could cut through the restaurant side doors but we only ever found them open once).
Although the room was clean and well maintained, we did feel somewhat like poor relations having to traipse across to the hotel.
Also, on finding that the pillows were feather, I contacted Reception because I have an allergy to feathers, I was informed that I should have stated this on booking/arrival as all the guests had now booked in and so there were no pillows available. It is inconceivable that a hotel of this size does not have any ‘spare’ pillows, but I didn’t push the point.
The receptionist although efficient didn’t make us feel welcome; more that we were an inconvenience.

My wife and I visit Buxton each year for the G&S Festival and have stayed at the Leewood for the last two years. On both occassions we have been very happy with all aspects of the hotel. Efficient, pleasant staff, who look after all your needs seemingly without effort, the sure signs of a well run hotel The rooms are of a good size and spotlessly clean. This year there are two menus to chose from, a Lite Bite and a main menu with a very good choice of dishes cooked and served to a very good standard.

The breakfast is extensive and cooked to order and is without question one of the finest available in any hotel we have stayed in both this country and abroad.

I stayed at the Lee Wood Hotel last weekend with my husband. The setting was lovely and the hotel was within easy walking distance to the town. The service at the hotel was very good without being fussy. The staff were friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was fabulous - pot of tea - English breakfast served at you table. We will certainly stay here again.
