Very pleased with the quality of the rooms, the very helpful and pleasant staff and the good food. From start to finish the weekend went well and would certainly have no problem in recommending this hotel.

hi. my partner and I stayed at the Lee Wood for two nights on the 19th and 20th Feb. We came up here so we could spend a couple of days walking in the peak district. the hotel is really nice, its an old people and has a lot of character. We stayed in a really nice room on the first floor. The room was really big, and had a seating area with a settee and two chairs, a nice flat screen TV, and a very nice bathroom. We didnt eat in the restaurant in the evening, as the prices seemed quite expensive for what it was, so cant comment on the food at dinner. We did however have the breakfasts in the morning and they were superb. you start off with a buffet bit, with croissants and cereal etc, then they take your order for your full english, or kippers etc. it was absolutely wonderful. The service was great, and we found all the staff to be very helpful, friendly and polite. it was a quick walk into town, if you wanted a bit of shopping or somewhere else to eat. We found a lovely restaurant and bar, in the Grove hotel. The manager and staff there were fabulous, really friendly, and the food was wonderful, and not very expensive. i thoroughly recommend trying it if you are in the area. the hotel was only about twenty minutes from where we wanted to walk, so was ideal. all in all a very enjoyable trip, i will certainly stay here again, next time we are up that way.

Stayed here for a friends 40th birthday celebration (they rented a house 3 or 4 doors away). Got a fantastic deal of only £90 for TWO nights so wasn't really expecting much especially as I had been to Buxton before and the accomodation isn't great generally. How wrong I was. OK, from the back (access from Manchester Rd) it doesn't look fantastic - but it is an old building, the "front" (access from The Park) is much better and there is a nice conservatory where a wedding was going on when we arrived. Buxton seemed to be under about 2 foot of compacted icy snow at the time so much of the car park was unusable - but managed to get a space ok. We booked the hotel for its proximity, truth be told and as I said didn't care about much else than that and the price - we would be coming in late and "flopping" so were more than pleasantly surprised by the extremely warm welcome we received from reception, the very pleasant, Victorian (I think) surroundings - lovely clean area with suitable carpeting for the era and associated antique (?) furnishings and display items. Our room (room 11) was really quite lovely - bathroom, especially the bath was great. Can't comment on restaurant as we were bed only choosing instead to breakfast with our friends at the house. I can honestly say that every receptionist we dealt with was very warm and friendly. I'd read on TA about an "aggressive" one called Stella so was a bit apprehensive. We met several receptionists and as I say they were all very friendly - funny this should happen but we dealt with Stella as well and found her to be quite possibly one of the most helpful, friendly receptionists I have ever dealt with. This was especially so after finding out after we got home that we had left the camera charger in our room - Stella took the issue in hand, always phoned back exactly when she said she would and went to the trouble of sending the charger back to us by special delivery as we were travelling again very soon, really great service and always with a smile (even down the phone) - Stella was lovely!!

My husband and I were looking for a weekend away so we choose the peak district as we had never been before. We stayed at The Lee Wood hotel and we were not disappointed, we had a large room which had fantastic views and a huge bed. The staff were extremely friendly and the service second to none, nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner on the Friday night in the hotel conservatory, it was great food in a lovely restaurant, helped by the falling snow outside, very romantic. On Saturday we went to the Thai restaurant which was also fantastic and great service. We would recommend Buxton and this hotel if you want a quiet weekend away. We will be back.

None of the hotels in the area get good reviews so we weren't exactly spoilt for choice. We chose this hotel on the strength of the later reviews, we should have looked at some of the older reviews for the true picture.
As others have said the outside of the hotel is depressing, the parking tricky. Inside it's very uninviting and smells of stale food. We were checked in by a charming young man who noted our request for a quiet room away from the lifts. The room allocated to us (room 25) was indeed well away from the lifts but overlooked a busy noisy road and above the bins (binmen come at 7.00am) with no double glazing so it certainly wasn't quiet.
We are Gold Card holders and supposed to get free upgrades etc so we're not sure if we were in a standard room or superior, whichever it was it wasn't very good. It was small and didn't feel cosy or comfortable. The pillows were old and very flat, basic tv with minimum channels and cheap horrible tasting tea and coffee. The bathroom was nice and clean but let down by cheap lino curling up at the edges, very worn towels, no tissues and only half a toilet roll with no spare.
I appreciate that hotels need to make economies at the moment but guests should not have to suffer. It is false economy to be so cheapskate because you lose more in goodwill than you can ever save financially.
We were glad we were only staying one night.
Next morning we were the only guests in the dining room, breakfast was average, portions cooked to order were small.
We went to check out and the receptionist (I think she was called Stella) asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. Not wishing to lie I replied that it had been 'okay'. What happened next was surreal. She turned on me aggresively and demanded to know what I meant by 'okay'. I said I'd filled in the comments card and handed it to her saying we were 'disappointed'. She continued to verbally attack me and then went on the defence saying how hard the hotel worked for the guests. B y this time I just wanted to pay and leave but she hadn't finished with me yet. She announced that my £73 B&B rate was incorrect, £73 was 'room only' rate and breakfast was extra, she then said that £73 was even too cheap for 'room only'. I offered her my printed email confirmation of the rate but she didn't want to look. Eventually she reluctantly and grudgingly agreed to accept £73 and made me feel as if I was trying to get away without paying. An earlier review makes comments about a 'miserable receptionist', if it's the same one I would add aggressive.
She not only does a disservice to this hotel but to all Best Western hotels in the UK.

Spent enjoyable weekend in Buxton with an overnight stay at the Lee Wood Hotel. We would recommend the hotel as it ticked all our boxes. Clean and tidy throughout. From start to finish service was excellent everyone was helpful (and had a smile). Our room with en-suite was clean and spacious. We had twin beds which were very comfortable giving us a good night sleep. Hotel has a large staircase but a good working lift is available next to it should you have difficulty getting up and down stairs. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was excellent. We had no problem parking on-site and it was only a five-ten minute walk into town. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and Buxton is well worth a visit.

Having been warned off a hotel in a neighbouring town by TripAdvisor, we saw the Lee Wood reviewed very positively. From start to finish a superb experience. After trying hard, our only quibble was that the toast racks were tarnished and could do with a clean! It is a genuine 5 minutes downhill walk to the Opera House and 5 minutes walk into open country. very reasonable restaurant prices.
