Very comfortable, very helpful staff, all young and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was large and bright and very clean.
We will certainly go back and ask for the same room.
Buxton is a very good location to stay for visiting the English treasures of historical houses. Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall are a must but there are numerous others all within a drive.

This is actually a nice, friendly and I'm sure usually, a quite hotel as alluded to by previous reviewers. Unfortunately our hopes of a relaxing stay for one night on a Saturday were dashed by the fact that we had not been informed that the hotel was hosting a wedding, and our room (number 6) was directly over the evening disco. We actually paid more for a superior room that was to be the worst room on that particular night. After eating at the local Thai restaurant (Simply Thai - very good), we had to endure two hours of room rattling, bone shaking music from directly below our room. Our complaint that we maybe we should not have been put in the deluxe room when there was a disco booked for the evening was met with "well you should have been told there was a wedding at the hotel". Unfortunately this was not communicated to us when we made the booking, so my advice is, ask the question, particularly at this time of year!

Great location, great staff, great food and a 'country house' feeling.
If you are visiting the Peak District and want a good hotel then look no further than the Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton.

They say looks can be deceiving; well this was definitely the case.

Due to the good weather, we decided to visit Buxton and booked a hotel the day before. All central hotels were full, and the Lee Wood was the only available hotel, which concerned us, but decided to take our chances anyway.

As we pulled up we thought we had made a big mistake, and like in other reviews it resembles an 'old age home'. But as we went inside this all changed. The interior is not modern, but it has character.

The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful and even suggested restaurants to eat in town - can recommend St Moritz, the Swiss restaurant opposite the Barceló Palace, we had a wonderful meal.

The hotel room itself was small, but as we had a discount rate, we didn’t grumble. For a 3*** it had everything we needed (28). The bathroom seemed to be rather new with a huge bath and shower. The room had everything we needed, even free wi-fi, which was a bonus.

Breakfast was served in the conservatory restaurant which was large and airy, and the food was fresh. We had a fresh cooked breakfast too - again staff were friendly.

The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk 'down' into town - don't let this put you off..!!! It's a nice walk and the good thing is we had 'free' parking at the Lee Wood.

We visited the Peak district for our anniversary and stayed at the Lee Wood Hotel.
Whilst some of the reviews written here do not set the best scene, we found this to be a lovely little hotel - and the perfect location, as it was a short walk to the centre of town - but also a good location in which to access all of the lovely sites that the Peak District has to offer.

Our room was spacious and clean, and looked as if the bathroom had recently been re-fitted - so was modern - with nice heated towel rails.

The hotel was particularly quiet, and the staff were very courteous and helpful - booking restaurants for us, as well as offering advice on where to visit. We didn't stay for dinner, but the restaurant looks lovely - set in the conservatory. Breakfast was good.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like a peaceful break away, but doesn't want to pay a fortune to achieve it.

In terms of the city centre - we went for dinner at Simply Thai. Apparently, the best restaurant Buxton has. Can't complain. The Thai Green Curry was yummy! We also visited a lovely little cafe for a glass of wine on the Saturday night, called Project X. I would recommend that for a little bit of live music (they had a latin duo playing) and a relaxed atmosphere.

If you are travelling around locally, check out Bakewell, Speedwell Caverns, Dove Dale (amazing walk!), and Lathkill Dale for the waterfall.

Hope this review helps. This really was a nice hotel and can't be faulted.
