“Absolutely terrible experience and service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

After making a booking online and securing a room i then made arrangements for my parents to fly from there home in Spain to meet us at Buxton' all done and very simple' all happy and excited! Two days later we got a call from the hotel telling us that our agreed £380 room cost had jumped up to £500 with no explanation at all...
Now my parents are traveling to the hotel and we are not going to be there! This whole experience has been a terrible nightmare and i certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone..

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Terrific position in town and with free parking. Pleasant staff throughout. Clean spacious room and everything worked in the bathroom, which had good towels and nice products. Breakfast good. Interesting decor throughout. Hope to stay there again and for longer.

Room Tip: Suspect that the top floor might be a bit hot and stuffy in summer, but we did not have any problem...

I have never been in the hotel before but it turned out to be a very memorable stay, great location, very good restaurant and the service second to none, thank you. The bar and restaurant have been particularly well refurbished, marrying old and new - it just simply "works".
Would recommend .

Having stayed here for the past seven years and seen the improvements made by the owner l can only congratulate him. I have just read the review by(householder) who has obviously been nowhere and is used to b&b on Blackpool promenade at 15 pounds per night you won't get better value any where in N,W England but then some people are never satisfied

From the very warm welcome I received on arrival, through the space and cleanliness of the room to the wonderful breakfasts that I received, I had a really relaxing time at the Buckingham. If you are after corporate chic, chrome, nice lines, uniformity then this is definitely not the place for you. However, if you want charm, originality, good service and a wonderful atmosphere then this is the place for you. I was staying on my own but had a huge room (1 double bed and 1 single bed) with both bath and shower in a very spacious bathroom. Information about the hotel is readily available and I was given everything I needed when I checked in. The bar is also very good, welcoming residents and non-residents alike. I would most definitely stay here again

My wife and I spent a long weekend here and were delighted with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Although the hotel was 'tired' it was kept spotlessly clean and the bedrooms were comfortable and well equipped. We were spoiled for choice at breakfast time - full English with choice of egg cooking method, kippers etc and more choices of cereals and Wilkins marmalades than Sainsburys! Yes, the hotel does need a makeover but the inevitable price increases would make it less good value.

I had this hotel booked for me and after reading the reviews on trip adviser was a little worried.
On my arrival I received a warm and friendly welcome from the receptionist.
My first impression was walking into a grand old seaside hotel that had seen better days.
On arriving at the door ( it looked like plywod) to my room I turned the key with some trepidation.
What I found was a large comfortable room decorated with many pictures of Al Pacino, a modern tv , tea and coffee and a very large bathroom.
Admittedly the bathroom looked like it needed a lick of paint but it was all very clean and tidy.
I have since learned from a friend that many of the rooms have pictures of stars of yesteryear.
I had a good nights sleep and if I go back to Buxton would stay again at this hotel , but don't go if you are looking for a Hilton or Premier Inn experience. It's an old hotel with a bit of character.
For the price it's ok.
