Description: The Three Tuns dates back to the early 16th Century - although some records make even earlier reference to this, the oldest pub in Hay on Wye.Famous for its unique charm and character, Three Tuns became a popular haunt with local characters and well known personalities such as Jools Holland, Marianne Faithful, Neil Kinnock, Huw Edwards and some as infamous as the Great Train Robbers!Unfortunately the Three Tuns suffered a devastating fire in 2005, but a sympathetic restoration has brought life to the old building once again.Enjoy the huge inglenook fires, 16th century beams and the sympathetic new additions such as the garden room and large beer garden

“Great food and nice to be surprised”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

My girlfriend and I had the Pork Tenderloin and the Mixed Game Casserole (just like another recent review I notice) and they were both superb. Very tasty food with some interesting twists I thought - the apple risotto was something new to me and avoided the stodginess of so many risotto. Because it was a really unpretentious atmosphere we weren't really expecting so much creativity in the menu and it was a string of really good surprises! Emboldened by the quality of the mains I went for the slightly strange sounding plate of desserts including artichoke panna cotta and parsnip fudge, both of which were amazing. Some of our meal was part of the Valentine's deal but we hadn't planned on that and it would have been good value without that. Great to eat excellent food, with some new experiences in there, in a relaxed environment at reasonable prices. Recommended!

“Delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

We had their Valentines set menu, very good value at £29 pp for 5 courses.
Highlights included perfectly cooked steak and their 'taste of puddings' which was a large platter with a selection of delicious puddings and 2 spoons! Perfection.

“Simply amazing food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

A well presented pub with a good selection of ales and ciders. I ordered the Pork Tenderloin and my girlfriend had the Mixed Game Casserole. Both dishes were some of the best food we've had for a long while after eating out at several disappointing restaurants. The prices set out for the meals were also fair. Unfortunately the joint pepper/salt mill had a loose screw which meant we had to pick peppercorns out of the Casserole which we both found quite hilarious.

Thank you very much for taking to the time to leave such great feedback. Sorry about the pepper grinder (we have now checked them all for tightness!)

“Love this pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Went here for lunch today, I have eaten here before so I knew I was in for a treat. The food was excellent and the staff were brilliant, they are relaxed and so friendly. My mum and I had the roast beef and my husband had the soup and linguine, it was hot, tasty and plenty of it. Great place, will eat there again. Well done.
