We recently stayed in the Swan at Hay, and had a most pleasant time. Reasonably priced, we had a warm welcome and found the staff went out of their way to help. We had a lovely, light clean room that over looked their garden, which would be delightful to sit in had the weather been warmer. We stayed in and ate and had a really good meal, which was superb value for money, well cooked, well presented and very hearty, which is just what you want if you have been out in the fresh air all day. Our room was spacious and nicely furnished, and though the decor in the hotel could do with up dating here and there, it was generally very comfortable and attractive.

Breakfsat was fine, very substantial and filling with good quality food, though a little more fresh fruit would have been nice. Again we could not fault the service and attitude of the staff.

If you are taking a break in Mid Wales, whether you are going to be outdoorsy and active, or bookish and enjoying the atmosphere of Hay on Wye, then this is an ideal hotel. The staff are attentive and thoughtful, it's warm and cosy, and represents good value. We really enjoyed our stay, and would like to return.

Room Tip: Don't go in the annexe.

This place is a 3 star but it seems a little tired even for that rating. There was a pervading smell of stale grease as we entered the place. The room (no 1) was adequate but a little antiquated and needs updating.
Staff were efficient but not over friendly
Cooked breakfast was quite good but no fruit except a bowl of apples!

Young, very friendly and helpful staff. The lounge is great to sit in reading a book whilst enjoying the warmth of the fire.

Good breakfast and evening meal quite satisfying. Would have no hesitation in staying again.

We visited here on a two night stay with breakfast and cream tea. For what we paid (£80) we were very impressed. It was a character filled building and the staff were friendly without being over the top.
We chose not to eat in the restaurant as there wasn't anything we fancied on the menu. The cooked breakfast however was spot on- no complaints what so ever. Service was great and we didn't have to wait. We also had some cereal of which there was plenty of choice- perhaps needed more of a fruit selection.
The parking isn't great here but that can't be helped.

We booked for a one night midweek stay courtesy of a Groupon deal. This included B&B (superior room) and dinner for two.

From the moment of arrival to our departure we were impressed with the service, the room and the food (both dinner and breakfast).

The room (no.3) positioned on a corner of the building at the front, was extremely spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. Although overlooking the main road into town the traffic noise was barely audible. The heating worked perfectly well and was most comfortable overall.

The food throughout was freshly made, piping hot, beautifully presented and delicious. The setting for both breakfast and dinner (separate dining rooms) was in keeping with the character of the hotel and was both spacious and light.

Had we not been on a groupon deal we would have been more than happy to pay the going rate and will certainly be coming back.

Amy, you and your staff are to be commended on running a welcoming establishment, thank you.
