“Perfect cottage in the centre of Hay”
Reviewed August 24, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Lovely, well-equipped cottage right in the centre of the town - so making it easy to walk everywhere. It was great having an allocated parking space nearby, too. We had a restful few days and enjoyed exploring the beautiful Brecon Beacons countryside.

“Lovely period cottage with all the modern conveniences, great position”
Reviewed August 18, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Beautifully positioned in a quiet location but right in the heart of Hay. Quaint, comfortable with all the modern amenities - including Wi-Fi. A lovely sunny courtyard for a glass of wine in the evening sunshine and all the restaurants and bars of Hay virtually just around the corner. the private parking spot was a particular boon.

“Right in the middle of Hay on Wye”

For book lovers Hay on Wye is the town to be in and Chancery Cottage is right in the middle! Need I say more? The cottage is delightful and - did I mention that it is right in the middle of Hay?

Oh, and should you manage to look up from your book the swimming and canoeing on the Wye is also wonderful and good food, good coffee, etc is everywhere.

Hey, but don't tell everyone ;-)

“so good we came back for a second time”

We have just returned from our second stay at this lovely cottage. The kitchen and bathroom have been fully refitted since our first stay, now with a dishwasher, washing machine and freezer (in the kitchen) and a roll top bath with separate shower (in the bathroom). A great place to relax in a quiet yet central part of Hay....under 1 minutes stroll to "murder and mayhem".
We are already trying to see if we can fit in another week here next year.

“Cosy spot, perfectly situated in the heart of lovely Hay.”
Reviewed June 8, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We had a great time at Chancery Cottage, which had everything we needed for a very successful week at the Hay Festival. Everything was as described, was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a proper sun trap of a garden which had the sun all day. The newly refurbished bathroom was excellent, with a powerful shower and lovely deep roll-top bath. A very pleasant 15/20 minute walk to the festival every day, and so much to do within seconds of the front door. Minor points: the corner of the tiny road where the cottage is situated got into a fight with the wheel arch of our car and our wheel arch came off worse! Bear the tightness of the angle in mind if you plan to unpack the car before parking it in the great space provided behind the owner's property in Chancery Court. The addition of a clothes horse or something to put your clothes on when you're enjoying the wonderful bathroom would be good, and so would a lock joining the top and bottom of the stable doors at the back: we all barked our shins whenever the bottom door was open a fraction less than the top one. All in all a great success and we'll remember our stay fondly. Many thanks.

Hi Lucy & Will,
Thank you very much for your review and so pleased you had such an enjoyable stay.
Just to respond to your very valid comments there was a wooden clothes horse in the bathroom but previously guests felt it was in their way and wanted it removed so now hearing your comments will review this as even though the bathroom is spacious for a cottage it would be handy to have somewhere to hang clothes in addition to the door hook.

Will also look at the stable door as there is a door stop provided but sometimes the wind is strong and the door blow closed.

Agree the Lane is very narrow to the cottage which is why parking is provided around the rear of the cottage. Access is given to the linking gate from the parking area to the Lane so one can easily get to and from the car, intended to make this much easier for the guests.

The nature of the quaint lane with stone cottages means it does not work well with the larger sized cars. As the Lane is unrestricted parking there is no control regarding access to other cars but generally access is much easier when the Festival is not taking place as Hay as a town is much quieter.

Look forward to seeing you again. Many thanks.

Spent a very relaxing week here, very near the centre of Hay yet quiet - you can pop back with your purchases after each book shop! The cottage had everything we needed and we had a very comfortable week. Having parking is a real bonus in Hay.
We would happily come again.
