Such a fantastic place for a special glamping experience. The owners and staff were ever so helpful with the setting up of the venue and throughout the whole weekend. The food was delicious and electric blankets in the safari tents really did the trick.

Thank you to all that assisted with the wedding weekend,

Sam (The Safari Landrover)

From the moment we arrived we were encouraged by founders Paul and Kesri to enter into the spirit of what makes Drovers Rest such a unique place. That included farm walks, letting the kids feed the animals each morning after breakfast on their working farm (alpacas, goats, sheep, donkeys, chicken and soon micro-pigs); eating marshmallows and games around the bonfire; curry night (possibly the most delicious one I've ever tasted) as well as enjoying the half hour climb up Hay Bluff, one of the Brecon Beacons most spectacular views and only a 10 minute drive away.
Independently we went rock climbing, wandered the wonderful book shops and antique markets of Hay-on-Wye, sampled Shepherds Ice Cream and eat a glorious Sunday roast beef at Pauls recommendation, The Bridge Inn at Michaelchurch.
On site we regularly had communal games of cricket with the other families which was a lot of fun. There was a full size table tennis table in the barn with haystacks for the kids to hide in; as well as fully paid up Sky football or Sky movies to watch with their beautiful dogs Coco and Shadow napping in the bean bags.
It's all beautifully designed with independent rooms to shower and clean up. The tent accommodation works really well - the beds were comfortable, log fires kept us warm with neat verandas to soak up the last sunshine of the evening whilst watching the kids playing on the 2 trampolines and swings handily placed at the bottom of the site.
The first discussion in the car on departing, lead by our kids was, "When can we come back next?..." Unprompted and honest.
Paul and Kesri have obviously thought long and hard how to create an environment that encapsulates the best of camping, shared local experiences as well as independent discovery. Hats off to them for trying something different and succeeding with ease.

We had a lovely stay at Drover's Rest across four days at the end of August. The tents are well equipped and the electric blankets and stove really took the edge off the chill evenings and made for cosy nights and a great sleep. Paul and Kesri couldn't be more welcoming and we and the kids really enjoyed getting to know other campers. Kids could run free on the beautiful camping field and loved the independence they experienced wandering to the children's play area and hanging out with the farm animals. Lovely breakfasts (though no hot option other than pastries - think the website copy needs updating) - brilliant drumming workshop, delicious Braais. Looking forward to seeing how this wonderful place continues to grow and develop. We'll definitely be back!

Room tip: Just Sheared was comfortably close to the washrooms for night time toilet trips!

thanks for your lovely review. We found the hot option often wasted so instead focus on giving you amazing quality homemade granolas, fresh fruit, breads, jams, organic yogurts, juices, award winning teas & coffees and scrumpy freshly baked croissants, bagels, pain au choc instead which has gone down a treat on our trial this summer. We will be adjusting website etc and offering more breakfasts during all scholl holidays since the group gathering over breakfast so so amazingly lovely.

We had so much looked forward to our weekend stay after having it recommended by a few friends. On booking, I was fully bought into the 'Drovers Experience' and stated we were interested in meals through our stay. It was only when I called on the Friday lunchtime from work that they informed me there were no meals this weekend- disappointing, and an added pressure to hurriedly shop, but hey-ho.
On arriving, we were told we were the only family camping, not the community feel we hoped for, but kids had trampolines to themselves, so every cloud and all that!
Saturday morning came and we were told there would be no animal feeding, nor campfire on Saturday- hugely disappointed, but I confirmed that both would happen on the Sunday, so we adjusted our Saturday to fit.
Feeding the animals on Sunday was the highlight of the kids’ stay- the quad bike ride was fantastic too. I confirmed that the campfire was on that afternoon and we headed out- on returning no campfire materialised, and we tried to find staff but couldn't (we also needed more firewood that evening, but couldn't find anyone, so took from the neighbouring tent - we did pay the next day!).
The tents are great in a beautiful location, but my whole impression is no one could be bothered when there were so few of us. I would have much preferred our stay to be cancelled by Drovers and I would have gladly rebooked for another time- after all, everything is marketed around the full experience, which was (sadly) lacking.

So Sad to read that you did not get the full Drovers experience whilst we were away. Our business success rests on our hospitality and all our staff need to embody this especially when we are away. We take all our reviews seriously and we will investigate with our staff and make changes if necessary. Farm activities run throughout the year whether there is one family or 10 families
Please do note on all our website and our email confirmation to you, we specifically say we do not do food throughout the year unless we are full. Unfortunately for a small business like ours where all the food is sourced locally or homegrown organically and a chef is paid to cook we can only open the kitchen and larder when we 3 families or more. Unfortunately during your stay we only had your booking and an email confirming this was the case was sent to you 2 weeks prior to you arriving. I can only think of you didn’t receive it to see if it went into your junk folder.
We will be in touch to discuss more and offer you a free weekend As we don’t want anyone to have anything other than the full Drovers experience.
