Stayed here one night en route to Somerset. Quiet location at the foot of Chepstow Castle. Decent restaurant and bar downstairs. My room was at the front with view of castle and ancient mural which inexplicably was covered up by a pair of curtains. Large room, decent bathroom. 60 pounds inc. a good English breakfast. Lovely quiet garden. At the far end of the garden are more rooms in a separate building. Owner's dog likes to bring you sticks and play "pull stick". Wi-fi not available in room but good access downstairs.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room.

The exterior of the hotel, restaurant and lovely garden are well deserving of the star rating. However the annexe room and the accommodation at the bottom of the garden had very tired decoration and were substandard - bathroom fittings were broken, pipes exposed and there was mould around the bath edges. We had just completed walking the Offa's Dyke path and were looking forward to relaxing in nice accommodation. Such a pity that these rooms were allocated to guests.

Room Tip: ask to stay in the main house

Stayed here at Easter 2011. Liked it so much I wanted to come back, with my husband, so we stayed 2 nights recently. He, also, was very taken by the general "feel" of the hotel. Our room in the annexe, reached by the path through the very pretty garden was clean and comfortable. Good-sized full bathroom. An excellent breakfast, and the evening food and wine also very good. The staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Stephanie managed to multi-task in a vivacious fashion, on the manager's day off, and the other waitresses, too, were most pleasant.
We felt very much at home here, and would go to "Castle View" again.

First of all i would like to commend a member of staff, Stephanie for being so kind to us and great at her job. We initially enquired by email if we could have our border terrier with us whilst we had our meal, we got a reply with lightening quick speed and such a warm kind email it was. We arrived early at 6.30 for dinner where we were remembered by stephanie and such a lovely welcome was had. We sat down to an amazing fillet of beef washed down with some delicious wine and poretti lager and had our every need attended to. We left exceedingly happy and it was a great start to our holiday. They always say great staff are hard to find but i can assure you, you have found one in Stephanie at The Castle View Hotel :)

This hotel is an old coaching in facing the castle.
It is full of character and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is excellent and and breakfast was simple but delicious. The room we had was a last minute booking it was large and well furnished, however the curtains needed updating and the heating knobs need to be replaced.
We will be back to try another room and bring our little pup this time. We look forward to dining there again and meeting the lovely staff again.

Room Tip: A room inside the hotel
