The Piercefield is a bit of a mixed bag really, the staff are really friendly and the food when it arrived was really nice overall. We had booked a table at 12.00noon for 6 but unfortunately one of our party was delayed and arrived nearly an hour late. The staff were really nice about this and we waited with a delicious pot of tea served in a really nice tea pot. The guy who served us was chatty and helpful. When the last person in our party arrived we promptly asked someone to take our order but then had to wait 50mins for the food to arrive. In the end we went up and politely asked how long it was likely to be. I totally accept that we were an hour late ordering and there were a couple of similar sized tables in the restaurant, bur 50mins is a long time to wait as overall it wasn't that busy. It wouldnt have been so bad if someone had come over to inform us of the wait and perhaps offer some bread (it was after 2pm and we were very hungry). When the food arrived the general consensus was that it was delicious and pretty good value. The haddock and chips were fantastic, a large portion for approx £8 and the pork chops with harissa were great for a similar price. One meal however was a little on the odd side -the turkey wrapped in bacon was I think supposed to be served with winter veg, however it had new potatoes, carrots and mushy peas! And worst of all no gravy! The deserts were fantastic, particularly the cherry chocolate fondant which was presented beautifully and delicious.
We have been to The Piercefield before and will most likely return in the future. Staff are always friendly welcoming and pleased to help, maybe they just need less people front of house and more in the kitchen.
