“Nice Food, Slow Service but Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

The Piercefield is a bit of a mixed bag really, the staff are really friendly and the food when it arrived was really nice overall. We had booked a table at 12.00noon for 6 but unfortunately one of our party was delayed and arrived nearly an hour late. The staff were really nice about this and we waited with a delicious pot of tea served in a really nice tea pot. The guy who served us was chatty and helpful. When the last person in our party arrived we promptly asked someone to take our order but then had to wait 50mins for the food to arrive. In the end we went up and politely asked how long it was likely to be. I totally accept that we were an hour late ordering and there were a couple of similar sized tables in the restaurant, bur 50mins is a long time to wait as overall it wasn't that busy. It wouldnt have been so bad if someone had come over to inform us of the wait and perhaps offer some bread (it was after 2pm and we were very hungry). When the food arrived the general consensus was that it was delicious and pretty good value. The haddock and chips were fantastic, a large portion for approx £8 and the pork chops with harissa were great for a similar price. One meal however was a little on the odd side -the turkey wrapped in bacon was I think supposed to be served with winter veg, however it had new potatoes, carrots and mushy peas! And worst of all no gravy! The deserts were fantastic, particularly the cherry chocolate fondant which was presented beautifully and delicious.

We have been to The Piercefield before and will most likely return in the future. Staff are always friendly welcoming and pleased to help, maybe they just need less people front of house and more in the kitchen.

“Awful. Disgusting! Worst meal I've ever had”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

Booked table for 12 adults and a toddler way in advance. We're told numerous dishes weren't available. Ordered and two people's starters didn't come. We're told they'd ran out (one had coliacs disease and lactose intolerance and the other was pregnant so could not have a starter) meals were cold. Waited two hours in total. Beef too tough for the three yr old to eat so he had to eat his Nans chips. Risotto sent back. Not cooked and stone cold. Casserole served without its side of beans and when asked where they were,we were told sorry none left. Had to ask for some peas instead as we werent offered a substitute(which were solid and served in a gravy boat!!)chicken dish so dry couldn't be cut. Absolutely appalling. When asked how was your meal, the waitress seemed surprise to learn of our response. Only offered a 15% discount. Very disappointing as a large family celebration. One of the party has emailed head office of Brains as we were disgusted with the quality...and price!!three of the party could not sleep that night due to quality of reheated food (and one of them is pregnant) extremely disappointed customers who will never be returning!

“Boring food, rude & awful service”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Just don't eat here - the food is bland and uninspiring, and the service awful - we waited close to an hour for our food, and when it arrived, it was wrong (I ordered a game pie, and got a lamb's kidney pie) - as I didn't want to wait another hour for it to be changed, I ate my family's leftovers. Even though they had taken my meal back to the kitchen, the manager refused to refund us for it. Disappointing is an understatement.
