“Hidden gem”
Reviewed December 22, 2016 for a stay in December 2016

This little gem is a beauty. The break was bought for us as a Christmas present and it was perfect, It was our own cosy little castle for two nights. Loved the accommodation, the Christmas decorations, the welcome pack and the roaring log fire. Spent time in Chepstow and Tintern and went walking on the Welsh Coastal path and the Wye Valley Trail. Lovely meal at The Millers Arms in Mathern. The perfect antidote to the usual stresses of pre-Christmas shopping :)
The Welsh Gatehouse is highly recommended. Please check it out - you won't be disappointed.

“MAGICAL PLACE TO STAY”
Reviewed November 29, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We stayed here for a long weekend and it was fabulous. The gatehouse is beautiful and romantic. it is set in a lovely peaceful part of Chepstow. There are great local pubs and walks. We would stay there again in an instant and the basket of goodies which was left for us on arrival was a really good touch - chocolate and wine - a perfect combination. i would recommend this charming place without hesitation.

“A little bit of magic!”
Reviewed November 21, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

We had a wonderful weekend stay in the Welsh Gatehouse. It was magical to stay in a castle and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere more unusual to stay.

“An amazing place to stay”
Reviewed September 14, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The Welsh Gatehouse is a quirky, historic place to stay. The fact it is so old is one of the main things which attracted us. Despite its age it is very comfortable and certainly big enough for two. Getting to the bedroom is an adventure in itself (in the 'fun' sense of the word!). The instructions we were given were brilliant and certainly helped us find the place. It also prepared us for what we should expect, like the steep and narrow stairs.
This accomodation is so lovely we ended up staying in during our one day there. We simply enjoyed the building and the view from the tower (a must!).

“Fantastic experience in an amazing place”
Reviewed August 3, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Truly cannot fault the experience we had at The Welsh Gatehouse. The location and setting are beautiful and the property itself oozes character whilst still being tastefully modern inside. Climbing to the top of turret is an amazing opportunity to take in the sunset over the woodland and fields with a glass of wine.

I would definitely recommend visiting to friends and family and will 100% return.

“Wow, what a great place for a honeymoon!”
Reviewed May 27, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

I wanted somewhere quiet and romantic for our few days away after our wedding and have used Alistair Sawday's website before to find fantastic places to stay.

This did not disappoint. It was set down a lovely drive and the massive wooden gates came into view - WOW. The whole building was so comfortable with beautiful interiors, lovely fire (used twice), fab wet room and just so quiet.

The view from the tower was amazing. Our hosts, left us along, but when they found out we were on honeymoon, left a bottle of Champagne. They also recommended somewhere very special to eat - The Whitebrook, Monmonth which was amazing too.

The local village has a great pub and a walk to the local church was stunning with trails of the history surrounding the area. Hopefully, we'll be back next year to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and stay for longer.

“Perfect Weekend Escape”
Reviewed March 22, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Great quiet weekend escape from reality. Amazing location and fabulous accommodation just for two.
The history of the Gatehouse, the Court and the surrounding area is fascinating. There are a couple of good short local walks that go via the great local pub - The Millers Arms - which we can thoroughly recommend
