My husband and I stayed here using our Marriott Rewards Points which made our stay free of charge. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the hotel was an experience all on its own. We slept great, the rooms were clean and comfortable and quiet. We ate breakfast in the restaurant there the next morning, overlooking the golf course. The food was great, the service was what you'd expect in a 5 star resort and it was a very enjoyable morning. We then walked around exploring the common areas of the hotel which were gorgeous. Lastly, we toured the church that is located next to the hotel, still on the resort grounds. It dates back to the 11th century and although small, was beautiful. There's a small graveyard to accompany it but most of the graves are so distressed, you can't read the information on them. The only warning I'd make to potential guests is that if you're arriving to the hotel at night, their sign is rather small and dimly lit. We missed it the first time we drove by, as there are also large shrubs somewhat obstructing the view until you are right on top of it. We turned around at the next roundabout and managed to find it on the way back. I'll also mention that the hotel concierge was extremely helpful, giving us good suggestions of things to do in the area. They also give you a printout of the history of the grounds when you check in. Had I not read it, I wouldn't have known that part of the crown jewels were once held in the gatehouse as surety for a loan from the land baron who built the castle and lent money to the crown at one point. There are three castles within 10 miles of the hotel that are really easy to get to as well.

Had high hopes having been here a number of years ago. We were a party of 7, 5 stayed in the main hotel, 2 of us got shipped off to what can only be described as the close from Harry potter! Strange looking houses!
There was no air conditioning so the room was baking hot. The bathroom was tired, the shower impossible to use, I'm not even convinced it worked. Had to have a bath, the plug hole had to be prized out by hand ( nasty)
The bed was so soft, back ache central in the morning. Pillows like a thin biscuit, a duvet as thick as a tissue. The noise from the person above did not help either, they came in late and got up stupidly early. Rubbish night sleep all round.
Expected better from a Marriott.

This hotel belies its lovely photos. The rooms are very ordinary and they had to show us three rooms before I was satisfied with one - take a lake view room - the view makes up for the room. The decor everywhere is tired. The staff on the front desk were obliging but when we arrived 6.50 for dinner in their fine dining establishment we were told abruptly that the restaurant did not open until 7! The food in the restaurant was only ok. On trying to have breakfast the next morning, there were no tables available and no options. A poor excuse for a hotel.

We had a three nights stay at this lovely country golf a leisure hotel. They have kept the character of this very old stately home along with the modern touch. Our Room 205 was ideal as I have some mobility problems ,(car parking. ramp and near reception)was spotless and comfortable with everything we needed. Breakfast was always delicious with plenty of choice and a chef on hand to cook your eggs how ever you wanted. The restaurant over looked the grounds and very relaxing to sit and eat to Start your day. The staff were always attentive and pleasant. Bar and food prices were good and food in the Zest was very nice. Leisure facilities were great(avoid the pool from 4ish for an hour or so as is used by children for swimming lessons with it being open to members) and I was treated to a facial in the beauty treatment rooms. We visited Tintern Abbey and the Millennium Stadium during our stay and would love to come back to see more of this delightful countryside.
DOWNSIDE_ WiFi £15 a day if you wanted it in your room not on when you think how much the room rates are also the MORGAN'S restaurant was always being used for private functions, this is not mentioned on the web site and as we were hoping to have a nice formal evening on my birthday were disappointed and felt that guests should be informed on booking that this is the case. This aside we will definitely return in the new year and explore more.

Room Tip: 203/4/5/6 are near reception

First impressions are great. Driving from the main road through the golf course to the hotel brings a certain expectation. The hotel has a real feel to it as you approach the reception from the car park. The main building has a luxury heritage feel to it, staff are friendly and helpful and the lounge and bar are certainly pleasant.

Bedrooms are quite average - certainly clean, and not too small, but not special although they have everything you need.

Food is good - breakfast is certainly well presented and of good quality.

Most people seem to be up for a spot of golf, I can't comment on the course but it seems popular enough.

Overall - a good stay, nice ambience, good food and a good night's sleep.
