St. Pierre Marriott Hotel & Country Club

Stayed here for a work offsite. Stayed in one of the 'maisonettes' away from the actual hotel and it was very good. The rooms were large and very clean and I could park my car right outside the front door. Service was very good with extremely polite staff and the buffet style breakfast was perfect with all the usual options from full English to cereals and pastries. Whilst we didn't play golf the course looked in very good condition and it seemed very busy judging from the amount of people in the hotel in golfing gear. I don't know about value for money as I didn't pay however I was quite impressed with the hotel as a venue.

Ok, so some of the previous reviews weren't great - but we were determined to check this Marriott out all the same. In fact, prior to setting off for our weekend break, we called the hotel for some reassurance about some of the negative comments noted below. Having spent the weekend here, it is fair comment to state that some of the bathrooms in the Lakeside Village (where we were accommodated) are in need of an upgrade - this was acknowledged by front of house staff. However, rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable. Heating can be controlled by the temperate gauges on individual radiators, and fans and windows can help cool rooms where required.

We are not golfers, however many who use the resort are. Save for the odd bit of snobbery or inpatient golfer with their buggy, generally the atmosphere is very informal.

We ate in Zest on the night of our arrival - food was ok but nothing special. The availability of a children's menu was a welcome feature of this relaxed restaurant. One of the special dishes which we ordered was quite small in portion size compared to other adult meals. On making this known to staff, we were offered the option of an alternative dish which we accepted.

The leisure facilities which are open 6am - 11pm were great - we certainly made good use of the pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub and gym. Again, really nice facility that was relaxed and generally well kept.

We generally chilled out on site, although we did venture in Chepstow in the day, and again in the evening where we ate at a local Chinese restaurant (see my other reviews).

The hotel is sprawling and comprises hotel and 'villa style' rooms set in a village complex area. There is the added advantage of being able to park outside your villa which means you don't need to cart luggage a long way.

In this day and age it's a shame hotels like this don't offer free wifi throughout their sites - as it is, wired Internet is available at too high a price.

In summary, well worth a visit with little to moan about (IMHO)!

We attended the Make a Wish Charity Ball at the St Pierre and stayed the night after.
This Marriott has a Championship Golf course and a Leisure Centre with a pool. It's an old Manor House that has been converted into a 4 star hotel. It is popular for weddings ( there were 2 that day)because it has a church in grounds. We stayed in the converted stables across the court yard. Our room was a bit small but it was up to the Marriott standard with a modern bathroom and a comfortable bed. Even with 2 weddings they looked after our party of 120 with great food and entertainment. My only complaint was the cost of the House wine at £25 a bottle!!

Room Tip: Ask for a Court Yard Room for something different

recently stayed for three nights at this lovely hotel, stunning grounds and a very pleasant room in the courtyard.
However i do not expect to have to pay for Wifi in a hotel of this quality and price, ok if i wanted wifi in the room, but its not even free in public areas, a big let down.
You need to know that this is primarily a golfing hotel, and therefore they take lots of golfing parties, this is fine, although we could not eat in the main restaurant until very late as they were booked up solid with said groups, which was a disappointment.
we ate in the bistro instead, food was mediocre, nothing special.
Bar expensive as you would expect.
We therefore ate out on the following evenings (excellent pub/restaurant at Shirenewton - The Tredegar Arms, a couple of miles away)
However the breakfast was excellent a full buffet, hot food , plenty of choice and really good service.
All in all would revisit but would eat out on an evening

Friendly staff and check in ok, though staff away chatting so sometimes a time lag to be served. Expensive drinks and room, once you're there, you have no choice but to pay the drinks prices. Grounds well cared for and surroundings very pleasant. Rooms very tired and dated, gloomy. Dinner poor.

Stayed there Sept 8th. There is a lack of signage in the hotel to guide you around. Our room carpet had bits of fluff and crumbs in several arrears showing that it had not been vacuumed. Bed very uncomfortable and on the one side could feel dip in it. Looked underneath to see what the problem was and saw that the mattress was covered by what appeared to be a thin quilt. This mattress cover had two stained of what appeared to be blood. The silicone all around the bath was stained with mould and the shelf behind the toilet (boxed in pipework) not clean. There was a mini fridge in the room with a notice saying that any drink removed would be immediately charged to the room but the room was empty. We had a meal in Zest restaurant and was sat down about 10 mins before they acknowledged we were there. I had veg lasagne but not very good and only flavour was tomato sauce. Waitress was very pleasant and friendly in the Zest restaurant but earlier in the evening we looked into Morgans restaurant to see which restaurant we preferred and the woman in there looked at us like we were dirt. On checking out we we were asked if we had a nice stay and if all was OK , I told her Yes, apart from the hard bed and the blood stains on the mattress and she just said 'Oh sorry about that' and didn't even make a note of it so that the issue could be addressed. Next time we need a break we will go to Newport and the Hampton by Hilton which is much cheaper and the bedrooms have Wow factor.
