“Could have been better”
Reviewed December 30, 2011

For a four star hotel, I felt the service could have been a little better. We went just after Christmas and all the staff looked younger than 25, therefore they didn't quite have the sort of service knowledge that you would expect from a four star hotel.

Plus the shower didnt work in one of the rooms and had to be fixed and the service in Zest Restaurant wasnt great, with the starter having to be returned as it was wrong and then the main course arriving before the new starter had been finished.

Hotel itself is really lovely but the trip was spoiled slightly by the little things that make the difference

I came here for a small conference and training course. On arrival, my colleague and I were struck by the picturesque setting. As others have noted, the golf is the main attraction here and my unqualified opinion is that the course looked superb, with the greens looking unfeasibly neat, level and well-tended. As a non-golfer, however, I did not feel out of place.

My room was up to Marriott's usual good standard if a little bland. There is also some additional cottage-type accommodation which looked beautiful as I was passing by. The bar area was comfortable and relaxing after a hard day; alas the lack of real ale was disappointing in a hotel of this class.

The conference and banqueting facilities were very good with a smart room, suitable IT facilities and nice food. Unfortunately there was no time to make use of the leisure facilities but I got the impression that these would be of a high standard.

Overall I would recommend St. Pierre especially for business meetings.

Spent 2 nights at this charming hotel which is full of character. Undoubtedly it caters a lot for golfers, but they do not intrude on the atmosphere of the rest of the hotel. We spent 2 relaxing days chilling out which we desperately needed after a few weeks of stressful work. The bedroom was teriffic, Spa was brilliant and the service by the staff second to none!! Our only criticism was - food on the expensive side. We could have gone elsewhere, but as we had decided to park the car and not touch it until checking out, we opted for the hotel restaurants. But on the whole we really enjoyed ourselves and we felt completely relaxed coming from there. Well recommended for a relaxing break!!!

Only stayed 1 night as we were attending my mother's wedding at the hotel. Really enjoyed the experience, the room was clean, spacious, and well equipt. In our room we had tea & coffee making facilities, an iron & ironing board, and a large tv. The only negative i could say is the pillows on the bed were not comftable but that is me being very very petty!

The staff were very polite and helpful, always quickly dealing with any questions or issues we had. We had room service as well, the staff were really quick and food was lovely.

Breakfast was fab, big selection of cereal, pastries, yoghurt, fruit and of course a full english!

The wedding planner (Helen) was very good at her job and made sure everything went well, although it wasn't my wedding i could see that she had everything under control. As a recent bride myself i could see that she was worth her weight in gold.

As the wedding was on a Tuesday we were expecting a very early finish for the bar but when we asked the bar staff what time they would close we were told not until around 1am. This was a really nice surpise. Very helpful and friendly bar staff as well.

I would encourage people to stay at this hotel and even hold their wedding here.

The hotel is dated and needs work done it. Caters mainly for golf parties and functions would not recommend for couples. The swimming pool and spa is also in need of updating. We had lakeview room in the Lakeview village the location was absolutely great but again the facilities were stuck in the 70s.Not value for money

Had a 1 night stay en-route to St Ives, Cornwall.

Staff very friendly and polite - allocated room in lake village. Larger than previous room we had in courtyard close to reception, however, as we arrived during the September heatwave the room was very warm to sleep in and the towel rail in the bathroom would not turn off.
No air con ! ;o(

Other than that we had a pleasant stay ... again felt that the lack of FREE WiFi or any kind of internet connection would be an issue if we had stayed for more than 1 night.

Breakfast was good, with a plentiful selection for everyone, including: pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, hot section with bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, etc, etc.

The hotel was very full and staff seemed run off their feet. All-in-all this did not cause an issue as we ate out.

Would consider other options if we were in the area again !

My husband & i have just returned from a two night weekend break St Pierre, Chepstow. We found the hotel staff, polite & friendly. The suite we upgraded to was in the Lakeside Villiage, very picturesque over looking the golf course & lake. The room was large, well equipped & warm, however, the bathroom was looking tired & in need of updating. The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice & situated in a nice area of the hotel also overlooking the golf course.
The only negative point to our stay was, my husband had booked a round of golf on the Old Course after lunch on Saturday & after three hours play was only half way round the course due to a Competition playing at the same time. Players were so slow he decided to abandon his game & complained at the Pro Shop where fair enough they gave him a full refund. Had he been told about the Competition beforehand, he could have played the Mathern Course. Apart from the golf issue, everything else was very satisfactory.

Room Tip: Worth upgrading to a suite at the Lakeside Village, however, during the winter months bear in mind t...
