Description: We are a local pub in the heart of Chepstow town. We overlook the beautiful River Wye. All our food is freshly prepared and cooked to order and we pride ourselves on personal customer service. Our bar is fully stocked including three different ales, including local artisan suppliers to support local trade wherever possible. We also have our own Coffee shop (The Coffee Boat) providing luxury tea's, coffee's and cakes.

This used to be one of my favourite places to eat, but since they changed their menu it seems like they are just the same as most chain pubs, with boring menus and no unique dishes. The staff are all new and didnt even give us a menu untill we asked after sitting at our table for a good 40 mins. Its such a shame cause this used to be way above most of the restrants in chepstow and around, now it feels like they sold them selfs out selling cheap food and poor staff that is the same standards as a weatherspoons.

Had an enjoyable meal here, good friendly service and a fine selection of real ales for the other half. Good pub grub menu with a few extras on the specials board.

.

Follow-up to my review of 11th May 2013.

A few weeks after this 'unfortunate experience' we returned to dine and quiz.

After our usual good quality and tasty supper we joined in both sections of the quiz - and actually won one of them!!

People disbursed very quickly after the quiz (AND after devouring all the free sandwiches!) and very soon it was just the four of us remaining.

Ashley (the landlord's daughter) asked if she could speak with us. We invited her to sit down. She said that they'd been very upset at my May review (it was my second - this is my third!!) and explained the scenario as it had been. It wasn't as it had been presented to us on the night and she apologised for this.

Anyway, we all spoke very amicably and all felt the matter done-and-dusted.

We also all felt it was very gutsy of this young woman to approach us four 50/60-year olds without a bodyguard - and we greatly admired her for it.

But hey, just one poor experience in around a hundred visits isn't bad. And so we're back to noshing and quizzing every fortnight and enjoying ourselves enormously

- AND YES THE CHEESEY-GARLIC-BREAD IS STILL THE BEST WE HAVE EVER TASTED ANYWHERE IN EUROPE

My wife's brother and his partner were over from Lyon yesterday for a couple of days so we went to The Boat Inn for dinner. It was a lovely warm and sunny evening and everybody was outside enjoying pints by the riverside.Sitting down we had the usual frenzy of ordering...as they don't speak English it all became abit of a challenge but we got there thanks to a very friendly and patient waitress. Our sprats to start were good, the mains very good if somewhat oversized for us.(Pick the rib eye steak if it is available). My brother in law's apple pie was just as it should be including custard ! He liked it ! All in all a pleasant experience to be recommended. It's not cheap, but if it's cheap you are after you won't go there anyway.

Met up with a group of friends for an early evening meal. Food was lovely and reasonably priced, with a good choice of specials. It is in a lovely location and we got a very friendly welcome. We all plan to go back again. It was a great find!
