We met a friend in Chepstow on New Year's Day and had a morning coffee and lunch at the Lime Tree. The frontage gives the appearnce that there is not much room but on entering it is like the Tardis. Previous reviews referred to the various options of tables from small to large and cosy corners and more open spaces. The food choices are good, with daily specials, and there is a good choice of drinks, of which the coffee was particularly good. Somewhat continentally the tea is served in glass tumblers but is a good brew. Friendly staff and no feeling that you have over stayed your time at a table.

The food is ok and the staff pleasant, but the best part is the atmosphere as it is very chilled. It is a cafe bar and usually has a mix of people eating, drinking or having a coffee. Sunday lunch portion size is generous with lots of gravy.

The Lime Tree is much larger than it looks from the outside, and is split over several levels, with window seats for people watchers, cosy corners for those who want a bit of privacy, and some huge tables for bigger groups. There's lots of wooden furniture and soft lighting and it's a very comfortable, pleasant place to be. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and everyone, staff included, seems to be having a good time. The coffee is from Costa, and is very good. The food is excellent, with a surprisingly wide range of salads, soups, sandwiches and light bites available at great prices. I am a particular fan of the sandwiches, which are a meal in themselves and much better than any equivalent in the nearby pubs. Talking of which, if you do fancy an alcoholic drink, the Lime Tree is more than capable of obliging, with beers, ciders and wine behind the bar.

This is one of those places with a little bit of magic about it. Forty-five minutes in here and you're refreshed, revitalised and ready for the world. The only problem is that you might not bother going anywhere else in Chepstow for a very long time.

Located half-way down St. Mary's Street, at the bottom of the main street in Chepstow, The Lime Tree is a good place for a drink, coffee, or lunch after a morning spent looking around the town and/or shopping. Wooden tables for 2 or more on several levels make for an attractive layout in this café/bar. The food was tasty and nicely presented - we had a light lunch but you can get a more substantial meal if you want and choose from the "specials" board. I went with my niece, and her 6 month old baby, and they are very welcoming with space to park the buggy and giving us a small bowl from which to feed the baby. There was a great buzz to the place without it feeling overcrowded or noisy. Saw posters up for Live Jazz and a Quiz night so obviously there is more to this place than food and drink! Hope to return.
