From early April to late August, the star attraction is a pair of breeding ospreys, which nest just 150 metres from our observation hide. We were charge £4 each and there was nothing there but an empty loch. Dogs were not allowed near the place even on a lead. Trees have been planted to ensure you have to pay to see anything.

Nothing to dislike. Wonderful experience. Well worth a visit. Both adults and children would love this venue.

We expected to be able to have a good walk around the loch but it was not to be. It felt restricted , although having said that , there always seems to be plenty of birds to see. I have two tips if you are visiting the area ....1. Visit the restuarant at Butter stone just down the road ,there you can enjoy a meal or a drink by the side of Butterstone Loch and look out for Ospreys that often fish the Loch ( take binoculars).
2. Park the car at the Loch of the lowes and walk to Dunkeld . It will take about 1hour 30mins and takes you through great countryside .If you are there in May/june you can even walk through the wonderful bluebell woods. When you arrive at Dunkeld enjoy a meal or drink in one of the hotels ( Atholl Arms my favourite) or cafes and then have a stroll around the historic town. then buy an ice cream and take the liesurely walk back to the car park. PS take a camera

We spent a very pleasant afternoon here. We watched the osprey from the hides and on the excellent cameras which are trained on the ospreys' nest. The staff were really helpful and happy to answer questions myself, my wife and children fired at them. The reserve centre is a great place to view red squirrels from as the centre staff have placed a variety of nut boxes just outside the window. Whilst we were there the squirrels sat for ages eating nuts whilst we got some terrific photos of them.

The centre was running a special treasure-type trail linked to the Disney Pixar film Brave which my 10 year old enjoyed doing. She got a certificate for completing it as well as a polished stone.
