“warm and welcoming hotel”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

My Mum and I stayed here for one night bed and breakfast. I took her for a birthday treat as she grew up in dunoon many years ago. The hotel is great !!! From the minute we checked in, we were made to feel so welcome by the receptionist, she was so efficient and so friendly. booked 2 single rooms one of which had a sea view for my mum. rooms are spotlessly clean and so warm and comfortable with really good heating. bathrooms were also spotless. breakfast was beautiful. Freshly made sausage bacon and eggs and potato scone. waitress very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. asking if we wanted more tea and toast etc. Loved this hotel and would thoroughly recommendit, right in middle of the wee town of Dunoon

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

Me and my partner stayed in hotel just after newyear for 2nights through glasgow great deals.
Fantastic deal wee got with afternoon tea and followed by meal and bottle wine, which wee had in Rio restaurant. Steak was amazing i must say. It was amazing food, and Norrie the waiter was fantastic.
The hotel was lovely and clean. The staff were very nice and helpfull. Our room was sea view and very nice and bed comfortable.
Would highly recommend this hotel and wee will be returning soon to use our other voucher.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet go for seaview room, other rooms look on to back street and the pubs all...

Booked this break through one of the Glasgow deals. 2 nights bed and breakfast with dinner (with wine) on the second night all for a very cheap £99. To be honest I wasn't very hopeful about the service for that price but was pleasantly surprised. On arrival we were greeted by a very warm and friendly reception manager, who quickly checked us in and directed us to our premium room.... The room was huge, clean and tastefully decorated. Generous storage for clothes and modern chair, footstool and dressing table also dressed the room perfectly. Flat screen tv fitted to the wall with free view channels also available.Throughout the duration of the stay the staff are always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was served quickly and was hot and properly cooked... Very tasty indeed. Evening meal on the Saturday was brilliant, advertised as 4 courses but there was no way myself or my partner could eat 4 coursed due to the very generous portion size.... Would definetly recommend the the traditional vegetable curry with rice.... Absolutely brilliant. Excellent weekend with excellent food and beautiful surroundings. The owners of the Argyll Hotel have done a sterling job at running this hotel in the very sleepy town of Dunoon. I will defintely be back and will be happy to pay the full price... Only down side is the wifi is a bit hit and miss, but he other pro's with The Argyll Hotel more than make up for that....

Room Tip: upgrade to premium for a sea view.

We have been visiting family in Dunoon for nearly 10 years. Each time we try a different B&B in the hope that we eventually find a good one! I'm pleased to say the search has now ended! We were very impressed with the hotel which was clean, with friendly attentive staff, modern rooms, a fantastic bathroom, comfy bed and great views. We were very happy with our room - the travel cot looked brand new and our baby son seemed very happy in it!

Our only observation was that our parents also stayed at the hotel but their room was overlooking the main street. They struggled with noise with it being Friday / Saturday nights and they said it sounded like there was a taxi rank right under their window as here were cars comng / going / waiting most of the night. Our room was at the front and we heard absolutely nothing! They will definitely book a front facing room next time.

I was personally disappointed with the breakfast which was barely luke warm but it certainly will not stop me highly recommending this hotel or returning there in the near future.

Thank you Best Western.

Room Tip: Choose a front facing room to avoid noise from weekend revellers on the high street.

We booked this trip through the Edinburgh Great Deals website and because of this it was always going to be very much a value weekend.
On our arrival the reception was very friendly and efficient and we were soon tucking into a very good afternoon tea in the lounge. The food was excellent but the ambience ruined with loud dance music blaring from an enormous TV! Come on.. embrace the opportunities the surroundings offer.. put on some Jimmy Shand and light a welcoming fire in that that lovely (empty) fireplace!
Bringing us nicely on to the main subject.. the heat, or lack of it!
Yes, it was a cold weekend but on more that one occasion we suggested to each other that it might have been warmer eating outside.. the hotel was FREEZING!
Our room had a single electric fire which, even though on all the time, had to battle against the freeing cold air that blasted in through the huge gap around the door from the unheated corridor. We had to try to jam the door further closed with a chair and try to seal the gaps with blankets and jackets. The window too was old, rotten and draughty.
Breakfast was delicious but we actually had to go back up to our rooms and fetch our overcoats in order to sit in the dining room!
The management were very polite and responsive when we mentioned this to them but despite a promise to turn the heating up in the dining rooms the next morning was still as cold as ever.
Saturday night's sleep was difficult due to the volume of the music coming from the pub over the road 'til 3am, which found it's way nicely through our single glazed and draughty window.
Our evening meal in the hotel restaurant Rio's was very good with excellent service from Norman.
All in all a cheap and cheerful weekend with a very good standard of service and food quality. We would be unlikely to return though and would only recommend to our Eskimo friends!

Room Tip: don;t get the third floor! Face the sea.
