“Perfect family break”
Reviewed August 13, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed in a two bedroom comfort lodge at Hunters quay. Think this is the only type offered if you have a dog but I was pleasantly surprised by the size & cleanliness. We took advantage of the go active activities & these made the holiday, excellent value for the under 5's at £5 a session & Ben was brilliant, so enthusiastic & funny. The got a little expensive for the older children & my teenager was a little disappointed that the archery & rifle shooting was over 18's only, h&s I suppose, although most scouting groups do these activities for younger children. The evening entertainment was a bit hit & miss but the fun house excellent value if you buy a pass. The pool was large with communal changing area & the whole site was clean & welcoming & I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff. Take the time to visit Inveraray jail was excellent . The only downside was the lack of wifi, my husband was getting withdrawals! Great for families with young children not so much for teens.

“Clean & comfortable”
Reviewed May 11, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We were booked into two lodges (12 of us) for a hen weekend. The two lodges were clean and comfortable but needing a wee bit of TLC. \They were fine but the paintwork was a bit jaded. They were adequate for our needs, all of the beds were clean. On Saturday morning we, having checked dining room times, sauntered up for breakfast for 9.30 am. (In our opinion a wee bit late to be starting to serve breakfast). On arrival we were told by a member of staff that the restaurant didnt start serving until 10 and even then it might be a bit longer and she hadnt started to set up. I approached the staff at reception and asked why as the brochure clearly stated 9 30. We were directed to David, the manager who listened, and said to follow him as it should be open. He very quickly organised a table took our order and proceeded to produce, tea, coffee a never ending supply of toast and eventually the most amazing cooked breakfast.. The service was fantastic after such a cranky start and David, you are a star. And so courteous. We went back this morning again and once more nothing could be faulted. The cost of this amazing food - £8 each and that included tips. So although the lodges were a bit shabby the breakfast certainly was not. David you are the tops! Thank you.

After reading your submission on Tripadvisor i do not think you were staying in our privately owned lodge. We only have one lodge in the park and it does not have jaded paintwork and looking shabby. As you stayed in two lodges i think there has been a mistake. Very pleased to hear that service and value for money was apprciated in the complex. Kind regards Iain, Argyll Self catering Holidays.

“xmas holiday not recommended”
Reviewed January 13, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

The overall property was great. the park itself is lovely and facilities are really good. After having been last year for Christmas and enjoying so much we decided to go back this year
what a let down. If any one decides to go for the £50 decorated Christmas Tree Don't
It was a rip off. 5ft slim line tree that consisted of 25 oversized balls 1 piece of tinsel and two sets of lights which were definitely not Christmas tree lights, and no tree topper.
Complained to manager only to be told I could look at the decorations left in their box and take what I needed. (Did he miss the point pre decorated tree!!!!!!!!!
. Our Christmas Lunch was awful, Yes it was busy but having given our order we then waited 45 minutes for each course and the food was only just warm when we finally got it. Eventually fed up we left as after having coffee we were then told it would be a while for the mince pies. (Coffee and Mince pies) together I would have thought. It is a shame as the staff are lovely but in my opinion the standards have slipped .

“Okay, if weather is good...or families with kids thats under 12yrs old!”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

If travelling as a family with younger kids its great as always entertainment on around 6-9PM for the kids while parents can have a refreshment as bar there. You can still see what fun your kids are having safely. Quite busy! My experience not under the same category, stayed in 3bedroom Travelodge-say its luxury but definitely not. Barbeque area was a concrete slab on balcony. No towels unless you hire at £1 per towel + a deposit of £5. Easy to get lost at night, like I did-lighting was poor, too far apart and not enough signs. My cabin was quite a bit away from the complex. Lots of midges at night so be prepared. Gorgeous scenery though, loved the wee gift shop, although closes around 7pm. Good bus service going from inside the site to local town+drops you off at morrisons food store. Also picks you up here!

Liked best: Good size rooms+surrounding views.
Liked least: Midges and moths everywhere, alot of walking to do to get to complex or shop. Entertainment not for me-the kids shows probably more livlier than night time entertainment!

“Home away from Home”
Reviewed September 8, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We loved the home. It is equipped with everything we needed and so much more. Providing many living areas for groups to have privacy, a formal lounge room, a less formal sitting area and the magnificent family/dining room overlooking the Loch. Gardens are absolutely stunning and I only wish the Strawberries were in season. Thank you

“Great Park, Great Location, Great Accommodation, Great gateway to a beautiful area of Scotland”
Reviewed November 8, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

There were three generations in our family group comprising of myself, wife, 2 daughters, daughter’s fiancé and grand-daughter (Ages 55, 56, 28, 26, 22 & 6).
We usually travel in Europe, Greece, Spain, France or Italy. I had never been to Scotland before with the exception of a Jackson Browne gig one night at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Thought we would give Scotland a go, short break 4 days to test the water.
It was absolutely brilliant. Hunter’s Quay is in a superb location sweeping down onto Holy Loch. The site is very well maintained and our lodge immaculate. The other on site facilities are very good and certainly as they are described ‘on the tin.’ Good Bar/Lounge, Pools, Sauna, Steam Room, Entertainments room and children’s play room with loads of activities including table tennis, badminton and pool tables for the older kids. Very helpful, pleasant and friendly staff in all areas.
Away from the site a right hand turn takes you into Dunoon, a nice enough place but basically more or less closed for business. What a shame, it just needs a few more people in there and a bit of love, I feel it could bloom again.
Turn left from Hunter’s Quay and the views of Holy Loch and backdrop are stunning from the word go. Just a couple of miles up the road and a left turn takes you on a wonderfull journey (approx. 12 miles stunning scenery) over to the ferry landing for the short hop to Oban Isle. Also highly recommended (a must see) is a ride over to Inverary Village/Castle (approx. 30 miles stunning scenery). The castle is reputed to be one of the most photographed anywhere in Scotland and it is clear to see why. The castle was actually closed when we went because they were filming Downton Abbey for a couple of days (That’s how classy it is!). The fact that it was closed didn’t matter because the town/ village is a pleasure anyway.
Loved it all and will be back, OK we were perhaps lucky as the weather was decent and there were no midges, maybe the tide is changing for this idyllic place.
Thanks Hunters Quay & South Argyll. It was a great holiday.
