I went today to take my son who has been fascinated with the Leas Lift for months. We parked (for free) at the bottom, rode up for £1 adult fare (under 6's are free) and had a lovely walk on the promenade at the top. It is staffed by volunteers who are knowledgeable about this water balance lift. It was a great trip out to entertain a toddler.

Lovely lift up to the town or down to the beach. I used to go on this a lot as a child and still find it fascinating now. Just a little too expensive.

this was amazing and as the kids had seen it on darling buds of may, that were really impressed this must be kept as i really can not see anything like this to ever be built again, there is not much left in Folkestone as they are letting everything go

This is one of the very last water lifts in Europe. It is extremely well maintained and really deserves to have as many visitors as possible, in order to keep it working !

The Lift is operated by filling large water tanks under each car which is filled up on the car at the top making it heavy and pulled down the cliff by gravity, which as it gradually descends pulls the lower car up by heavy cables attached to each car well worth a trip to the beach or the coastal park, especially on the way up as the steps are a hike for the young and fit.
