Stayed here for the weekend visiting friends on the Saturday, the accommodation was spacious and clean and the meal we had in the restaurant was of good quality.

The only small criticism was a bit of lack of attention to detail in the housekeeping in the bathroom but it was not a major issue.

Staff were polite and friendly during our stay.

Would stay again if visiting the area.

We stayed in the Clifton Hotel before departing for France on holiday. The hotel is a little tatty in places but overall offered reasonably comfortable accommodation for the adults (but not necessarily the children - see below). The breakfast was served promptly (important when you have an early ferry to catch) and was of good quality.

However my first issue with the hotel is that finding on-street parking was an absolute nightmare; I was forced to drive around for 30 minutes before finally finding a space (no-where near the hotel). Clearly this is not ideal with luggage and two young children in tow.

My second issue is that while the “family suite” provided an excellent room for the adults, the children’s "room" consisted of nothing more than a bunk bed and a very narrow walkway (i.e. a large cupboard). With no room for a travel cot my younger son was forced to sleep in our room, thus negating the whole point of a family suite with interconnecting rooms (i.e. the chance to relax without fear of waking him up). The children’s "cupboard" was also very hot and stuffy as none of the windows opened.

We had intended to stay again on the way back from France...I cancelled the booking.

We've stayed here on several occasions, but not for a few years, so were pleased to see that there have been some improvements since our last visit. Lovely position up on the cliffs and handy for Dover, Deal and an easy trip to Canterbury or Rye. Staff are excellent - always helpful, food has improved considerably and parking arrangements are vastly better. It's worth having a Superior room and paying a bit extra. Only drawback is that bathrooms are small, but this building dates back to 1840, so bathrooms have been carved out in corners - not always successfully. Still think it is pretty good value.

Room Tip: Room with sea or garden view are best on 1st or 2nd floor. Don't select one on the road side...

Paid £75 for room only on an August bank holiday Saturday. Large room with partial sea view (obscured by tired net curtains). The hotel is what it is a traditional tired south coast old hotel in need of a total makeover costing a fortune. But clean and pretty cheap. Bed very comfy. Staff friendly but had little contact with them. Did not have breakfast here due to bad revues. Public areas musty smell due to fire doors and a lack of ventilation.

This hotel has seen better days I would imagine. Everything seemed so run down but on the other hand some people could find this "Quaint"? The hotel could do with a real update and this would help as it is in a good location.
Car parking can be a bit of a problem as there is limited spaces outside the hotel.
The staff were friendly enough and helpful.
In the room you had all the usual facilities, TV, tea making facilities etc.
The floor of the room seemed to be not level and sloped slightly to one side.
Bed was on the soft side for us but some people would prefer that.
Lift was very small and could only take about two people at a time.
The shower was fine and delivered plenty hot water. The towels had seen better days.
We had a bad experience in the restaurant where the salmon arrived stone cold. This was sent back to the kitchen and it came back warm, hard and dried out. We gave up on the salmon. I would say that the food was nothing to write about and rather plain fare for the price.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

This hotel has lots of plus points. The location is lovely with quite a number of the rooms having gorgeous sea views. The hotel has character, some nice period features and a cosy, warm feel. The negatives are the tiny lift and our shower was extremely poor... It took about ten minutes just to get wet! The staff were very nice and helpful and even brought our dog a special sausage treat! Breakfast was average and quite overpriced for what it was. Overall though it was a pleasant stay.

We spend a night at this hotel last week and were impressed by the size of the room!
Good bedding, nice bahtroom, 2 armchairs, kettle, very nice liquid soap with a wonderful sent!
And with the warm weather, we were very happy to be able to open the window.
Hotel is just at the corner of the promenade along the coast!

Room Tip: some rooms have sea view.
