“one night on route to channel tunnel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

Staff friendly, rooms warm, comfortable, and clean.Excellent access to the tunnel.
Food awfull! Very limited menu in the evening.I ordered poached fish which was cold and tough. I should have sent it back but after a long day of travel I was too tired to bother.Breakfast was slightly better but the scrambled egg was over seasoned with pepper we left it as it was uneatable. Message to future guests- stay in Hotel but eat out.

A fairly average HI Express, but in a great position for the tunnel, it is literally less than a five minute drive from entrance.

The check-in was efficient and the room was clean and tidy, although it was quite tired and worn and the bathroom was a little grubby - however it was adequate for a brief stay.

However if you are going to stay here I would recommend that you stop somewhere on the way to eat as the bar menu is basic and grossly overpriced. What we had to eat was okay, nothing special, but not worth the money. The bar is a bit expensive and the bar tender could not actually pull a pint, as we stood there and painfully watched him top them up bit by but for about ten minutes! If we were to stop again I would call in at the Tesco just up the road and buy some beer or wine for the room.

They do a bit of a breakfast with a couple of hot items, cereal, toast etc. It's not bad and good to fill up on before your trip, in fact it was better than the bar food dinners.

The Tesco also does fuel so is ideal to fill up at on your way past.

I would stop here again because it was practical and reasonable value for the room, but I will eat elsewhere before!

This Holiday Inn Express is really ideal for a one night stay enroute to the Channel Tunnel, Eurostar or ferry. It is basic but the rooms are clean and tidy with all the facilities you would expect. The main complaint with this hotel is its restaurant facilities which are extremely restricted and limited. On arrival at check in,at approx 5 pm, we were asked if we wanted to book a table in the restaurant for that night as guests could only eat in the restaurant if they booked a table beforehand, the restaurant was only open from 6 - 9.30 pm, and (as on our previous visit) a huge amount of guests were expected to book for that night. To be honest, the menu is very limited choicewise, very expensive and on the basis of our last experience, we declined. Fortunately, again following our previous experience, we were prepared and had bought food with us but if guests werent so prepared, they could well end up having to go out of the hotel and walk to the Tesco nearby for food instead of paying the inflated prices for the restaurant (thats if they were lucky enough to actually get a table!!) Having said this, the staff were very polite and helpful. And breakfast (which is included in the very reasonable room rate) was perfectly acceptable with lots of choices and variety of hot and cold items - again ideal if you`re about to set off on a long journey, And of the 200 guests we were told were about to show up? We saw about 50 people all the time we were there either in the bar area or at breakfast the next day and the restaurant was never full!!

Typical Holiday Inn Express, modern clean rooms and functional dining. However, my Holiday Inn Express Standards it's rooms are very new and the reception staff were particularly helpful. Our Shuttle required us to leave the hotel at 4.45 am, but reception were happy to arrange a pack up breakfast for us to take with us. Very well located for le Shuttle.

We have stayed here many times before, as it is located about 10mins from the tunnel, and ideal if you have an early tunnel booking. There is also a large Tesco just up the road, which is handy for any last minute things. The hotel is what you expect from Holiday Inn, a clean, budget hotel, with friendly staff, although they were under staffed when we arrived, and had to wait for booking in. The rooms are nice and clean, we were on the 3rd floor, and found it very quiet, with comfortable beds. Breakfast, which is included in the price, is adequate, but dont expect a good fry up. The only hot food available is scrambled eggs, sausages, and beans.
We find this hotel ideal for our needs, and will continue to come back.

Stayed here before and after tunnel crossing. Thursday 28th March. Good job we booked Sunday on way down as they where turning people away as hotel was full. Very pleased with the hotel and comfort. Breakfast included in the price but NO bacon or fried eggs!! When I asked staff, I was told we had sausages to choose from! Powder eggs is not much fun. As I say I liked the hotel, but they do suffer from having to many customers, even though the staff work hard and are friendly. My only real grumble is food. Could do better.

Good hotel overall for two very weary travellers stuck in the snow last week - varied selection of food available at reasonble prices. Bar service was good and we were obviously lucky to get a room. Rooms usual high standard, very clean and comfortable, with choice of pillows as usual. Only negative - reception not as good as at other H.I. Express that I have stayed at unfortunately!
