Sunday lunch for four adults and three small children turned into a half hour wait for our (booked )table, followed by very slow service for the food. Although the staff were very pleasant and polite, they did not seem to be aware of the problem of the long waiting time, with small children getting very restless waiting for something to eat. The main courses were lukewarm when they eventually arrived, and we were offered the option of reheating them in the microwave, which we declined. Starters were nice. There was a good selection of vegetables with the lunch, but the beef was tough.
Staff appeared unconcerned when we complained about the slow service, and no apology was offered at all. My family has eaten at the Woodman occasionally over the past few months, but we will not be returning.

I was here overnight and thought the accommodation was excellent. Rooms are very nice, comfy and clean. Breakfast was also excellent.

Table for 4 upstairs restaurant, 8:00pm Easter Saturday so expected the place to be busy (it was) and service to be slow based upon other reviews (NOT at all ! service was brilliant and prompt). Crisp linen napkins, modern glassware & cutlery - these things matter. Not sure about the slate platters, a bit 'Jamie Oliver'.

Food is very good indeed - just like the pics - and impressively precise fish cooking. Lighting is bright so the food sparkles, my heirloom tomato salad starter looked stunning. High point is the deserts, and easily the best sticky toffee pudding ever. The Chef can really cook.

Would have been 5 stars except the wine by-the-glass was VERY average at best, not up to the same standard as the cooking. The tomatoes in my salad were pretty but lacking taste 'cos out of season. But that's it - NO other negatives - so overall pretty impressive.

Bottom line - will definitely go back and take guests next time. Looking forward to trying some of the other dishes.

Stayed here overnight for a 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration on a Saturday evening. The ambience and decor are first class and the rooms bright, airy and modern. The evening meal for our party of 20 was excellent - if maybe a bit on the slow side for service - and breakfast did not disappoint! Customer service was of the highest standard and special mention must be made of Ash and Jay, whose customer service skills, enthusiasm and product knowledge were a joy to behold.
