“Beautiful and well equipped”

We had a lovely 3 night stay in this stunning cottage.

You can tell a lot of effort has been put into the finishing touches here - lovely soft furnishings & extremely comfy sofas, down to trendy light fittings and taps!

The kitchen is equipped with everything you'd hope for in a self catering cottage. There is plenty of space in the kitchen itself which is really nice. Perhaps the only thing to note is there is no freezer just a freezer compartment so don't go overboard in the frozen section of the supermarket!

We only used the master bedroom but it felt nice and spacious even with a normal size travel cot which was kindly provided by the hosts. The bathroom is a modest size but is decorated nicely to maintain the luxury feel.

Perhaps my only small criticism (and this is only really as we had a small baby with us) is that the corridor lights are motion sensitive - which means that they turn on when you're trying to creep out of the bedroom at night - it would actually have been nice to be able to just turn them off completely.

All in all a beautiful place.

“Fantastic Cottage, peaceful location, a really super find!”
Reviewed October 4, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We had a weekend break at Swallows Nest, visiting family and a football match. The Cottage is delightfully peaceful and well positioned for exploring all West Yorkshire has to offer. We had a fantastic break and would not hesitate to recommend this charming cottage which is well equipped and extremely comfortable. Sally the owner was very helpful and accommodating – overall a super time was had by us all. Thank you.

“Gorgeous cottage in a beautiful location - stunning!”

We had a fantastic long weekend at this absolutely gorgeous cottage! Beautifully decorated and furnished, with everything you could possibly need for your stay and more - simply stunning! The location was perfect for us - on a hillside on the outskirts of Slaithwaite, with fantastic views of the village and the countryside. Lovely and peaceful. We didn't consider it walkable to the village (we have a 2 year old Son), but it was only a five minute drive away, so not an issue. Slaithwaite itself has some lovely little shops and places for coffee or lunch (coffee at The Vanilla Bean was very nice) and we enjoyed a nice walk following the Huddersfield narrow canal to Marsden where we enjoyed lunch at the Watersedge Café. The booking process with Sally was very easy and she was very helpful in providing us with lots of information to make our stay enjoyable - she told us about a reservoir walk nearby, recommended the Rose and Crown for Sunday lunch (excellent!) and suggested visiting an award winning farm shop and café in the local area amongst other things. There is so much to do in this area (especially if you love walking), a weekend is just not long enough! We will definitely return - our stay at Swallows Nest was first rate, we found a real gem! Thank you so much Sally for letting us stay in your gorgeous cottage! Hope to see you again soon!

“An outstanding holiday rental”

This place is a real gem. The location is first rate, set high up in the hills and offering incredible views of rolling countryside. The property is set in its own gated grounds with car parking for two cars at the front. The property is spotless, both inside and out.

The building is a converted barn and is both splendid and luxurious, effortlessly mixing the traditional stone and oak beam construction with contemporary and traditional interior styling.

The kitchen is stunning with everything you could possibly need for a stay. With 180 degrees of glazing, it is an absolute joy to be in. You could never get tired of the views! The kitchen is high spec and the owner has thought of pretty much everything, including the mandatory dishwasher. Pots, pans etc are in abundance which is great so you never have to worry about not having the right items to prepare meals. The owner even provides some condiments, herbs and spices etc as well as dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid etc.

The bedrooms are very well thought out and have very comfortable beds. The choice of bed linen is well worth noting as it is very luxurious and in keeping with the building. All three bedrooms are will furnished. All have beautiful oak beams adorning the ceilings.

The bathroom is high spec with a deep bath and luxury fittings. The separate shower room is pure bliss with a brilliant, high flow rate rain type shower.

The living room/dining room is beautifully finished with a wood burning stove taking centre stage. There is a large dining table and heaps of space for everyone, on comfortable sofas and chairs. The high ceiling is festooned with huge lights that were presumably an original feature of the barn. It really is a magnificent room.

The utility room is home to the state of the art central heating system as well as the 2nd toilet in the property, a high end washing machine and a set and forget type condensing tumble dryer. The owner even provides washing detergent.

It is clear that the owner has an impeccable eye for creating first rate properties. The attention to detail is outstanding and the owner has thought of everything a guest could possibly need. The owner even provides a folder with instructions on how to use the wood burner, appliances etc as well as useful things like things to do in the area.

Also worth noting is that the owner has paid particular attention to making the property as energy efficient as possible, with a state of the art heat recovery system, energy efficient appliances and good use of automatic, LED lighting. Fast, free WiFi is provided, so you can stay in touch with the wider world.

All in all, this place is genuinely brilliant and I would not hesitate in recommending it.
