“Spectacular view”
Review of Castle Hill

This was only a short drive from the centre of Huddersfield and well worth the trop. You have a 360 view around the beautiful countryside of hills, dotted with churches and the pretty villages. Gives a great perspective.

If you like being able to stand on top of a hill and view as far as the eye can see then it is worth paying a visit to Castle Hill. The views of the surrounding countryside are outstanding but I do miss the pub that used to be there along with the essential toilets. It's a beautiful place to visit but you can't really plan a picnic anymore if you have children unless you're prepared to travel to find the nearest loo in a surrounding village.
The narrow single road up to the top of the hill is as ever an exciting ride as long as you don't meet a vehicle coming the other way but it all adds to the fun. I've never been up the Jubilee tower but I don't think it would add to the views, anyway.

The views from Castle Hill are probably among the best views of anywhere in the country! The stark contrast between the views overlooking Huddersfield to the North, and the Holme and Woodlands Valleys to the South and West, and everywhere inbetween, is stunning.

It's a lovely place for children to play, as there are large, flat open spaces of grass, and good footpaths around the hilltop with benches and information boards dotted around. There is also a good sized car park.

We always park on Lumb Lane and walk to the top, as driving to the car park at the top can be a bit precarious if you meet a car coming the other way, as the only road up is a very narrow, single lane, not built for cars. It's worth noting however, that there are no refeshments available nor toilets at the top, but in Summer there is an ice cream van parked on Lumb Lane.

It's worth going up the Tower when it's open (should be on Kirklees website) for (at the time of writing) £1.50 for adults, 50p for children and £3 for families.

Thoroughly recommended!
