Nice place to visit, enthusiastic staff, interesting venue! Easy to find, I was expecting it to be far more difficult!

Many Historic Houses, particularly some of those bearing the Acorn badge can seem over-bearing and stuck up. You are afraid to walk less you wear out hundreds of years of history, and of course you must not touch.

Colne Valley Museum is MADE by its lovely ladies (and gentlemen!) who will explain everything they are doing and show you how its done. The Carding, Spinning and Weaving of wool will be revealed to you. They'll even let you try some of it yourself.

Their enthusiasm is boundless, their knowledge complete, and all is done at the right level. There are no intimidating professors here who will make you feel small. The Colne Valley Folk bring this small Museum to life, it's not about exhibits motionless behind glass cases.

There's a modest charge, £2.50/£2.00 and that's so small you will find yourself shovelling money into the donation box.

Limited opening hours, mainly weekend afternoons, but check first before you set off.

Free parking in the nearby village square, and you'll want to walk around this little place afterwards.

On opening the door to the museum a waft of baking mince pies hit us, always a good start. All the volunteers were welcoming and helpful with some demonstrating the looms, they were all full of information and very interesting. While we were there they had a little Victorian Fair on which was fun and enjoyable. The museum itself doesn't charge admission but they do ask for a donation. It is also reasonably small so would fit well into a day trip around the area or maybe during a walk. There is also a little cafe serving drinks and light snacks.
Overall we thought this was a brilliant visit and both myself and my companion enjoyed ourselves a great deal, would recommend to anyone who happens to be near here.

A small museum, but with VERY enthusiastic staff who are more than willing to talk about the place for as long as you want to listen.
Well worth a visit.
