We go 2/3 times a week and the staff are great .. We have a young 7 year old boy who loves it there .. the staff can't do enough for you . Sometimes the food takes a while to come but well worth it ... The choice of beers is great and always served spot on

“Excellent value Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

We arrived at the Royal about 12.30pm Sunday 03 Mar 2013. We hadn't booked but found a table close to the bar. I was drinking shandy as I was driving. The landlord made my drink perfectly, as it shoudl be made, not like otjher places where Shandies seem to be too difficult for bar staff to produce.

I ordered a Beef Sunday lunch, while Marion had chicken. The food arrived shortly afterwards, and can I say, we both commented that this was the best Sunday lunch we had eaten in many a year. The beef was succulent, the 4 x vegetables were fresh and firm, and the potatoes were to die for.

The place soon filled up, and with many tables pre booked, we realised that we had been lucky to find a table.

The price £6.95 each was excellent value.

We have booked another table for 9 peope on St Patricks Day.

“Never had a bad meal here.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

It taskes longer to get your dinner than some places but it is worth EVERY minute, especially the belly pork. A friend of mine thinks the creme brulee is heavenly. We go at LEAST once a week now as the atmosphere is nice, the staff are friendly and the food is astonishingly good.

“Dry sandwiches made with old bread and no butter”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

I went to the Royal and Ancient on 14 February 2013 with three friends for a light lunch and chat. We all ordered sandwiches, had to wait at least half an hour for service even though there was hardly anyone in the place. My friend went to the bar to remind them of our order. I had ordered a cheese and pickle on malt bread. The bread must have been at least two days old, very dry. The cheese was grated between two slices of dry bread and unbelievably, without butter. The chips and garnish were fine. When checking with the my friends none of them had butter on their sandwiches. We asked if it was normal to serve sandwiches without butter in their establishment. The waitress replied without a batter of an eyelid that none of their sandwiches were ever served with butter unless requested. There was nothing on the menu to indicate this. We will not be returning.

“lovely food when it eventually arrived!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Visited here recently with a large group. We'd pre-ordered our meals so we were all suprised that it took so long for us to get them. However, when we did get our meals they were all delicious.
