If you want to stay somewhere that feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but less than 5 mins from the center of Harpenden, then Luton Hoo is a great choice.

It's grounds are so huge they have their own fleet of black taxis to run you around.

Lots of different types of rooms, i stayed in the Flowergarden. My huge ground floor room had a stunning feature bed, sofa, armchair, coffee table, desk and chair.

I recommend this for the perfect couples weekend away. You can even bag 18 holes and a quick spa - perfect

Room Tip: 309 Flowergarden is a great ground floor room opening over private garden and great views

Our group of five get together every year to play golf at a different venue. We like somewhere where the golf isn't taken too seriously, we can relax and have a nice meal. Luton Hoo exceeded all expectations. The staff could not do enough for us to the extent of keeping the golf bar open late so we could watch the rugby on TV. The rooms, spa and mansion were sumptuous and the food in the brasserie full of flavour. The atmosphere late evening in the mansion rooms was very classy - nice sofas, attentive staff and all sat in the palatial surroundings of a stately home. All round great attention to detail, down to the non-alcoholic cocktails....and we didn't even have time to see the gardens etc. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed near the spa and brasserie next to the golf club house. Good if you are a group - there i...

This is a magnificent property. I took my two kids for a surprise weekend away and they loved it! The grounds are beautifully kept and the building is in excellent repair. The pool is also great for the kids....especially being chauffeured there in a green London can!

We stayed in one of the newer rooms towards the rear of the property which was very nicely appointed and generously spacious. Well worth the money (or in my case, the British Airways Airmiles). Breakfast in the morning was included and excellent quality. The dining room was very grand indeed and the staff very attentive.

Detractions would be the room service; it's slow delivery (meaning it arrived cold) and it's quality; probably something to do with the distance it had to travel to get to where we were staying! With two very hungry kids, waiting an hour for food was stressful. The wine I ordered was wrong when it finally did arrive although it was quickly corrected.

The staff livery and the cabs available to transport you to the spa are also very tired and in need of an update I would suggest.

Despite these things however I thought this was a fantastic, good value, quality property and am looking forward to going back ( and maybe avoiding the room service this time!).

Recently came here for Afternoon Tea. What a dissapointment for such a grand building.

Firstly the welcome from the waitress we received was dreadful, no smile, or hello, she was like a prison warden. Also her uniform was not clean. The male member of staff who served our tea had his shirt hanging out and smelt of body odour.

The seats were far too low down with the table being so high, it needed lots of cusions to rectify this.

The amount of food on offer was awful considering the price. 3 tiny cakes and hardly any sandwiches. The scones were so small and cold when we got round to eating them.
To then be charged over £6 for extra sandwiches is ridiculous as most other hotels offer complimentary top ups. Also no one offered to replenish hot drinks, service was very lacking.

Overall what a dissapointment, compared to the big London hotels this place does not compare at all. A real let down to English Heritage. We shall not be returning, a special occasion ruined.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Luton Hoo for one night recently. For visitors looking for a taste of English heritage in beautiful surroundings, this is a must. The hotel is steeped in history and situated in over 1000 acres of beautifully maintained grounds. The service was first rate and breakfast in the ornate dining room was excellent. My only regret is that I arrived late and was only staying for one night. I will definitely return and highly recommend this to business and leisure travellers alike.

Really loved this old English style stately home and its beautiful grounds. I found the hotel on wedding website

http://www.itsyourbigday.co.uk/venues/step-into-another-world-at-delightful-luton-hoo.aspx
and they raved about it. Total luxury and fabulous food. Our room overlooked the grounds and it was so different to the surrounding area. Having driven through Luton we were a bit worried but we could not fault anything. Would recommend for a romantic weekend away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. It was lovely to wake up and hear the birds singing

The facilities and services are quite good. Only the breakfast is not as good as a 5-star hotel should be. The manager in the bar should be trained to be more friendly, instead of wearing a big arragant look by asking the guest, do you stay here, etc.
