“Really grand hotel”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

We stayed here for one night for our wedding anniversary. The grounds and house are truly magnificent. We had been given a free upgraded to a suite which was truly spacious and grand with a complementary welcome tray. Unfortunately there were a lot of ants around several of the windows and we had to leave the windows open to get rid of them; what had happened to house cleaning? Having been shown to our room, on the second floor, we had expected someone to come back and clean up, regrettably no one did.

Generally, the staff (outside of breakfast time) couldn't do enough. When we arrived late, due to a major delay on the M1, and missed our booked slots for sauna treatments, they did accommodate us, admittedly on a reduced schedule. At least we got something for our money, having booked a spa package. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant.

Unfortunately the one big disappointment was the breakfast. They didn't seem able to cope with the numbers as getting any sort of service was extremely disappointing and slow. We were only offered food from the buffet with the hot food being luke warm at best. Additionally we were not offered a cook-to-order menu which is clearly evident on their web pages, again another huge disappointment.

My husband and I stayed at Luton Hoo last summer for the Jenson Button Triathlon. Seeing as we had an early start, we booked to stay the night before.

We got a beautiful room at one of the buildings on the estate. The building was down by the big lake where the triathlon was taking place. The building looked new and the rooms were modern and beautifully decorated. They were well equipped and what you would expect from a luxury hotel.

The actual grounds of the hotel are beautiful and incredibly vast and the estate provide their own golf buggies and taxi's for you to get around with. But if like us you like a walk, it is great to walk every where. We didn't once use the taxi/golf buggies to get from restaurants, other buildings, gardens etc, we walked everywhere. Definitely worth doing as it is so beautiful.

The breakfast and the food in the restaurant was lovely as well and the staff at the estate are very friendly, helpful and accommodating too.

We loved it and are planning on coming back for a long spa weekend!

A beautifully restored country mansion, spacious rooms, excellent guest service and lovely grounds. The restaurant was good, the food very nice and a well balanced menu with classic touches along with innovative ideas. We didn't go there to play golf just chill in the spa and have a relaxing break in the country but only half an hour to London. A great touch to have hackney cabs to drive you to the spa and brasserie and back. All in all great value for money we will DEFINATELY be back for more.

Stayed at the Luton Hoo for the second time for two nights from 25/1. I loved the hotel last year and was not disappointed for the most part this year. The trip was for a girls spa weekend. Myself and my room buddy were booked into the main house. Both this year and last we had amazing authentic rooms. It just does not feel like you are in a hotel but actually more like a guest in an amazing stately home. Everyone in our group agreed we had great relaxing treatments. The pool area is lovely and the staff in the spa area were very attentive but at the same time warm and chatty if you so wished. The breakfast buffet at the main house was lovely. We lunched at the bar over by the stable block which is the area that contains the spa, gym swimming pool etc. There is also other accommodation in this area, friends who stayed in a room in this block last year said it was very nice. To get from the main house to the stable block the hotel has four black cabs, it is great fun being ferried from one building to the next, and as there was snow on the ground a must for us in our flip flops. Staff were very nice throughout the hotel. My only disappointment was the food at the Wernher restaurant which is the better of the two restaurants and offers a fine dinning type experience. To be fair for what it offered it was priced well, but my husband and I quite often do tasting menus. Although all the food was beautifully presented, and interspersed with complementary courses (sorbets, velouté, amuse bouche etc.) it lacked flavour. This was a shame given that so much else was excellent.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get a room in the main house if you can. It is worth the extra.

Spent 2 nights at Luton Hoo and could not have asked for better. It was our daughters 30th birthday and the staff could not have been more attentive. The room in the Parklands area of the hotel was very spacious, extremely comfortable, beautifully presented and had everything anyone could have wanted. So top marks for the room.

We ate in the brasserie and the standard of food and service was excellent and value for money.

The mansion house is exceptional and has been magnicently restored and the service in all areas was very very good.

Even though it is on the airport flight path, noise was honestly not an issue and never once heard an aircraft.

All in all a 5 star experience

Booked a table for two at the Wernher hoping for a luxurious dining experience. The Hoo exceed our expectations. On arrival we were greeted in a courteous manner and this was to set the tone for the evening. The staff were formal as required in such a setting but also personable and not at all stand-offish. We were guided through our evening at a pace that suited us and nothing was too much trouble.

The food was incredible - dishes containing flavours that I might not think to combine and presented amazingly without being overly pretentious (although you'd probably want and expect a certain level in this type of venue!).

Wernher made our anniversary meal very special and something to look back on. It was not a cheap evening, but not any more so than other fine restaurants.

Drinks-wise, there was a decent single malt selection - something for all tastes. The cocktails were prepared well and not rushed. Perhaps one or two more exotic non-alcoholic cocktails would be nice, but I'm sure the staff would be happy to oblige any requests.

We will be back.

A wonderful setting and chosen by numerous film location agents over the years. Lovely staff and massive rooms. Our daughter really enjoyed the pool and the rock garden and we roamed around feeling like Lord and Lady of the manor. The restaurant /room deals are good packages and make the stay pretty good value. Spa we did not try and was being painted which was a little annoying given the paint smell, but the pool and facilities were spotless otherwise. The main house restaurant is very very formal so we chose the brasserie which was lovely- they also have loads of meal offers for groups. Love, love love the london taxis they use to ferry us lazy folk from one location to another- the whole property is pretty vast ! They are SUPER kid friendly too , left a lovely bag and activity pack for our 5 year old. Fab breakfast overlooking rolling hills- utter bliss. I was pleasantly surprised, thought it would be farty and full of bourbon biscuits- in fact it was lovely- Molton Brown toiletries, proper range of tea and coffee ( fresh milk and proper coffee not instant rubbish) we had a HUGE room and a HUGE bed with lots of pillows. The only complaint I would have was the extra plate charges for afternoon tea, the best hotels in London just keep on bringing them until you want to move on to sweets, so being charged per plate is a little mean when its a few sarnies- otherwise it was excellent value and a fab stay. We stayed 3 nights, with a 5 year old and would definitely go back. A good option outside London and v close to the fast train from Harpenden into town. Quiet bliss just minutes from the M1.

Room Tip: Main House, overlooking the formal garden- HUGE bathrooms and amazing view to open your curtains to...
