“Avoid at all costs!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

I am writing this review from the hotel bed. It is 2.08 am and I cannot sleep for reasons which will become clear.
Booked this hotel purely because it was the closest one to the venue of my business meeting which will be in six hours time. Should have listened to the warning bells which rang when the receptionist quoted me a rate of "between £45-50 since its our last room".
Flight arrived late, got to hotel at 11.30 pm, no receptionist, just lots of drunken revellers who assumed that because I was of asian appearance I must be the taxi driver they were waiting for. (no amount of denial would persuade them otherwise).
Waited at reception desk for a total of twenty minutes during which I actually called the hotel several times in an effort to get someone to attend the desk. No joy. Eventually fought my way through the aforementioned inebriated crowd to get the attention of the bar person, who as it happened was also the receptionist. She finally came through to reception, (no apology), and handed me my room bill for £75 and said "you pay in advance".
Ooookaay! I challenged the amount compared to what I had been quoted and was told that there was no way anyone at the hotel would have quoted me "between £45-50". So now I was a liar, it was a quarter past midnight and raining cats and dogs. No alternative but to take the room.
Room was a triple room so fair size. Terrible bathroom with ancient suite and ripped linoleum. Towels had seen better days. Light switch above bed loose and made a funny noise when switched on or off. Quite disconcerting.
To top it off drunken revellers refusing to disperse so can be heard clearly through the inadequate glazing.
I am not expecting five star luxury but just because this hotel is cheap doesn't mean it has to be nasty.
unfortunately, it is and I cannot recommend it.

Hubby & I arrived from london luton airport, and taxi'd it to hotel. We were checked in by a polite lady that advised us all we needed to know said she would arrange a cab to our meeting later that afternoon. Room was spot on, we were in a newly renovated room at the front of the building. Large shower in a newly tiled en suite, flat screen telly, tea and coffee facilties, white crisp cotton bed linen. Could nt fault the room at all. Had lunch in the bar the menu was good with lots of choice, sky sports on in the bar, newspapers to peruse. left for our meeting and returned after 6 that evening. There was a good few in the bar, nice atmosphere, defineltly beats sitting in an empty cold bar. again we had bar food, we had steak whch was favourably priced at 4.95 had a few glasses of wine which we were advised by the chap behind the bar if you buy two glasses you get the rest of the bottle free, fantastic value. all in all could nt fault it, it is family run & the staff were accomodating, breakfast the next day on our departure was fresh & there was a menu on the table where we could have what we like...... it was nt The Shelbourne but its clean, central, lively & great value for money, & we will be back

We have been to the Weds Steak Night several times in recent months and found everything to our liking - a good quality pub meal in a lively environment.

We booked this hotel as it was conveinient for the purpose of our trip. We had a nice welcome and as we arrived early our room wasnt quite ready so we were offered a cup of tea each and a sit down in the bar area. we were shortly told our room was ready, we had the family room which from what i can see was recently renovated, tastefully done with nice bathroom and a large shower. Beds were comfy nice crisp linen, and pleanty of towels.
The next morning had a full english breakfast freshly cooked which set us up for the day.
overall im happy to say i would stay again if needed.

At the time of writing, there are seven hotels in Luton rated worse than the Pines. If that is accurate then God help Luton.

The whole place is very dirty and smells. Contrary to UK law, both employees and guests smoke inside.

The room we were given had excrement marks on the sheets. They had obviously not been changed since the previous guest. When we noticed a condom wrapper, we fled to a different hotel for fear of coming across the condom itself.

This place should be closed down.
