Just returned from a 90's adult
Weekend. Having paid £140 for
3 nights half board I really don't think we could complain. Yes, it is an alcohol fuelled, noisy weekend but what else would you expect??? We were on a hen weekend and it was the perfect venue for it! Entertainment, bars, pubs, all on one site. The accommodation was clean, nothing special. We chose the Half Board option which worked out at £40 more per person. This was great. The food was good, there was a fair amount of choice and it was tasty and fresh. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient. I would definitely return for another adult weekend. If you don't like noise and alcohol then don't bother! :-)

Hi kathryn j

We're really pleased to hear you had a great time during your weekend at our Minehead resort. We believe our breaks offer great value for money too, but it's so much nicer when guests tell us.

We're delighted to hear you would return - we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Thanks

Stayed for a weekend on a 90's adult weekend - if you like 24hour drinking and noise, stag and hens galore, naked people, weeing people, etc etc then go! If you don't, then don't! It will be noisy until about 6.30am every night, so you really won't get much sleep. We left a day earlier than we had planned as it was not worth staying the extra night! Entertainment is good, but facilities are poor, whole place needs a good clean and makeover! Accommodation is basic, pretty dirty, and pretty uncomfortable really! Didn't eat too much of the food, but what we did have was acceptable. Pool was nice, although they seem to allow people in fully clothed and with pints...slightly odd! Overall, not worth the money. Might be better on a normal weekend, although having seen what goes on on an adult weekend (take some antibacterial wipes) , I won't be going again!

Room Tip: Not offered a choice of room! Upgrade if you can afford, it might mean you get to sleep!

Although the resort is in a poor state of repair there is no excuse for cleanliness. We have just stayed in the silver accommodation and it was disgusting. My son has come home with a terrible rash. Someone described the accommodation as being like military accommodation. The military would never allow it to become so filthy. There was an abundance of cigarette butts lying throughout the resort. The apartment had a terrible smell coming from the sink. The carpets were crawling, Windows have not been cleaned in ages, the oven did not have fitting racks and the oven trays were filthy, the microwave was filthy with old food lying on the glass tray. The beds are just folding metal frames with a mattress onto which had springs digging through. We asked if we could pay to upgrade to gold and were informed no even though there was empty accommodation.

The staff were all pleasant and were courteous art all times. My son enjoyed some of the shows however there was a strange smell like very bad body odour when you walked into the main skyline area.

The food in the fire grill was of a reasonable standard and staff pleasant and attentive. The price was no more expensive than the same style of restaurant that you would find in most major city's.

The swimming pool was good however the levels of chlorine seemed extremely high. This may be because many of the babies in the pool were not wearing swim nappies.

Overall a very poor level of Cleanliness. Yes, the place is run down but this is no excuse for basics.

Will not be back.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Obviously we're disappointed to read your comments, but the only way we can maintain the high standards we set ourselves is to hear first-hand guest experiences.

We're glad you found our resort team pleasant and courteous, but clearly we fell short of your expectations in relation our accommodation and the appearance of the resort.

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact us on tripadvisor@Butlins.com.

We really would love the chance to welcome you back.

I use to love Butlins when I was a child (now in my early 30's). I thought it would ideal for my 2 year old, how wrong. Sadly Butlins is not what it use to be. I remember there being constant entertainment on throughout the day. The activities suitable for a toddler where on every 2 -3hours, lasting 20-30 minutes, either repeated in the afternoon or the next day. My 2 year old even commented "wasn't this on yesterday?" I hardly saw any red coats, seems to be a thing of the past and as for the mascot 'Billy Bear' we only saw him once a day driving in his car waving goodbye to people (this was never mentioned on the 'what's on' guide). At 18:30 there was a welcome disco of half an hour prior to the evening entertainment. Well if you call a disco a red coat ushering children to sit on the floor waiting for the show to start at 7pm, then you will be happy. Red coats no longer appear to interact with children, only to tell them to sit down and be quiet.

We stayed in the deluxe lodge which was lovely and quiet. However, the walls are very thin and you can hear every sound, bit of a nightmare with a toddler. The lodge was clean to a high standard and house keeping were great and very helpful. I really cannot stress enough to Butlins that they need to bring back the old style of entertainment and let children stand, dance and move around the front of the stage when watching a show. Also minehead is increasing their amount of accommodation by building new suites (which are very expensive, too expensive in fact) and I am keen to know if the management will then be increasing the size of Reds and Centre stage to meet the amount of people visiting? Reds and Centre stage is currently too small to meet the volume of visitors, let alone adding more. Also to add to management (hopefully they read these comments), please please please wash the carpets in Reds and Centre stage. It smells of vomit, sweat and stale beer, this can be smelt as soon as you walk up the stairs. The red coat then ask children to sit on it to watch a show? Would have thought environmental health would have something to day about that?

Hi Kaz S

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed review - obviously it's disappointing for us to read the bulk of your comments but the only way we can make sure we meet the expectations set by your childhood visits is to listen to what guests tell us.

The number of Redcoats and their interaction with guests is something we don't change, so we regret that element of your break disappointed you. We'll make sure we share those comments with the Entertainments team.

We will also share your comments about the Centre Stage carpet with the team on resort. Please be assured we follow stringent cleanliness regimes, and if we fell short of the high standards we set ourselves then we apologise.

We certainly do read all comments, and we are very grateful that you have drawn our attention to areas where we need to focus our efforts.

Hopefully you will want to come back to Butlins, we'd love to welcome you.

Thanks

Maria
