“Great "Madness" Weekend had by all.”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

Six of us went to see Madness perform their new album and all their old hits at Butlins and what a fantastic weekend it was. Four of us went for a two bedroom standard self catering as it was really only to get our heads down and a place to get ready. I went armed with a bag of cleaning material after reading some of the reviews before i went but was very surprised to find it spotless. There were a couple of bits missing like a tin opener and a fork but we asked a member of staff for a fork and we bought a tin opener so really it was no problem. Our block was quite quiet as we were quite far back near the spa shop, bit of a walk when you are merry but it was fine. The staff were very prepared and helpful for thousands of people arriving at the same time , there was hardly any waiting to check in. The standard of food in the pub was very good and good value for money. We would all do it again as it was a great weekend. The Madness boys were fantastic as usual , hope they do it again next year.

Room Tip: If you are a large party try to get seperate apartments as the bathrooms are very small .

It was with some trepidation that we decided to book at Butlins at Minehead for the Madness 'House of Fun' weekend. There were 18 of us in 3 apartments, a four bedroom, 3 bedroom & a two bedroom. Thanfully we decided to go for the Gold apartments which were close to the car parking and the Skyline Pavilion. We stayed in the 4 bed which also had 3 bathrooms. They were generally quite clean and the double beds were comfortable.
The kitchen could have been better equipped with only minimal cooking utensils & a useless tin opener - we only ate in for breakfast so managed with what we had. The entertainment was great for the Madness themed weekend but drink prices are high - bring plenty of your own & have a few in your apartment.
Overall an enjoyable weekend but make sure you book at least the Gold accomodation.

great adult weekend,we go every year having done the 70`s 80`s & now we have done skool reunion ,Heather small was amazing ,Chesney Hawkes was very good & so was Go West peter cox was great. Now the rooms we always go silver accommodation which we find adequate unfortunately the bed was broken but a quick word with house keeping & it was replaced.
We went half board as usual & the food was very good with a good choice ,help yourself to as much as you want .Now the bad points the cost off the drinks £4.75 for a small bottle of becks a bit steep i think . It does get rather noisy at night as clubs open till 3am ,so you may not get much sleep but overall a great weekend.

We visit butlins for a short break each year as a family with teenagers. There is always something to do for everyone. We always go self catering and use the local tesco supermarket for our groceries as it can be quite expensive at the on site supermarket

Though I had never been to Butlins before I didn't have high expectations. The weekend was about the kids and the WWE show really. Firstly, contrary to another review, the place is not "filthy", I am very very particular and found the whole site to be very clean. Yes some of it is dated and in need of upgrade like the Sports Bar and if you view the Show/Performance Bars in daylight you feel like you've been transported back in time but we never came across dirty tables or torn seats or the like. Staff in the resort were very friendly and accommodating. We had booked Silver but upgraded when we arrived to Gold for only £40 for the whole weekend (2 adults, 2 kids) and would recommend this. The accommodation is much closer to the activities and of excellent standard. I couldn't even find a mark on the walls, skirtings or a spec of dust. Unless you book dining in your package the on-site eateries are a bit limited but adequate and there is Morrisons and Tesco next to the site if you want to cook the odd lunch or dinner. The Sun and Moon pub on site looked like typical Chef and Brewer type menu but we didn't try it but it looked busy for the Sunday Carvery at £9 per adult. The Splashworld pool and changing rooms were clean but it did get very very busy on Saturday morning so the queues for the slides/tunnels were too long and slow. Lots of attentive lifeguards who were quick with the whistle which was a comfort. The outside funfair really was poor and very very dated. Some of the activities you have to pay for (not everything is free) but never felt we were being ripped off.. which is my biggest complaint when doing anything in this country. The entertaining on our weekend was outstanding too - in fact we couldn't decide which show bars to go into it. Street Life (hip/hop singing and dance crew) and Wonderful World (Take That Tribute) blew me away - I mean this is Butlins!!! Again, contrary to another review, we enquired about 2012 WWE event and was quoted £595 for Gold. But this was still £200 more than we paid this year so we'll wait and see if we can get a better deal next year. The WWE event I heard this year was one of the best. I don't like it much but couldn't help but get carried along in the atmosphere... we thoroughly enjoyed it. Summer at the site I imagine would give it a whole different feel but for us this time ..... Highly Recommended.!!

Room Tip: Just check about upgrading to Gold. For a little extra you get excellent accommodation closer to th...

WWE weekend was great and the kids enjoyed it. Our first room had a problem which was quickly sorted and we were moved. We were on a half board basis where breakfast was very good, evening meal was ok. There is alot of choice and you can have as much as you want. It could be a very expensive place if you are unprepared. We took drinks, sweets, snacks and pot noodles, as a kettle is available. The children were limited to £5 a day for amusements which was enough. The funfair is very dated and not all the rides were open. The swimming pool is lovely but expect a wait for the water rides. Lots of entertainment throughout the day. The room where the bingo was held smelt nasty so we didn't stay to play. We has mixed views on the staff. Restaurant staff worked very hard, Guest services were vere helpful, we had no contact with a single Red Coat. There were a few members of staff who were not so helpful including one in the Butlins Holiday shop who couldn't get us out fast enough , as the shop was closing. Also the kids has thousands of tokens ( won on the arcade machines ) and were short by a few to get what they wanted . The member of staff would not budge and so they had to make do with something they didn't really want. They had spent between them £60 over the weekend on the machines for a reward of a football and a rugby ball. Butlins is making alot of money in this department. The crepes sold in the pavillion were very expensive, my pancakes at home taste much better. Overall it was an enjoyable weekend but areas do need a makeover.
