Paid £17.00 for an adult rover ticket to Bishop Lydeard return, you can also jump off at any station along the journey. Great train ride if you like steam or an old diesel. Very well cared for railway & a credit to everyone concerned.
Just be careful if you go on a MOnday & expect to go to Bishop Lydeard Mill........................it's closed on Monday's.......why????

We purchased a Day Rover ticket from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard passing through some wonderful countryside and charming stations you could hop on and off at Whatchet looked excellent. At Bishops Lydeard we had a quick visit into the village, bit disappointing, only the pub worth visiting.
The cafe at Minehead was excellent with Bread pudding available, situated in a modern building not distracting from the old charm of the original station and platforms.
Well recommended the view over the Bristal Channels was great, the smells of steam on a summers day can't be replaced!

Visiting the West Somerset Railway for the second time did not disappoint. Chugged up an down on various trains while sipping a cold glass of beer or two, while taking it the ever changing scenery was a very pleasant last day of our long weekend. The rover ticket is best value allowing jump on jump off freedom. Staff are all very pleasant, friendly and relaxed. The train times allow time to stroll around Minehead. Dogs not allowed on the main beach May 1st to 30th Sept.
Watchet was particularly pleasant and worthy of a departure from the train. Also a great place to base yourself for a weekend, which we did.Try leaving the train at Watchet and walking the coastal path to Blue Anchor to rejoin the railway ( Distance approx 2-3 miles. A bit of a steep climb out of Watchet, initially along a narrow road so beware of idiot speeding motorists. Then out on to the cliff tops from which the view at sunset was something else. Beware livestock, dogs best kept on a leads.)

Always a great day out at the railway. So much work has gone into restoring engines, carriages and all rolling stock. Special steam weekends are the best as they will have about 6 engines travelling up and down the line. Lovely villages to stop off at, Dunster and Watchet. Just love the sights, sounds and SMELLS of a steam train and you must never leave a day out there without a bit of soot in your eye.
