After finding this place on tripadvisor prior to visiting Minehead this weekend we decided it would be a nice place for a meal on Friday evening (19/04/2013). Previous reviews had talked about the good food and busy atmosphere so we were quite disappointed when we arrived to find less than 15 people in the building at 7pm on a Friday evening. We had booked a table for 8pm and on arrival the waitress knew who we were - we seemed to be the only booking that evening. We had two drinks upstairs in the new games room but returned downstairs because it was too cold. We then went to our table to find one couple and a table of six in the restaurant - the atmosphere was non-existent. We ordered at the bar: starters - mussels in white wine sauce, ribs and wings to share - these were all nice and came quite quickly. The main courses however were a very different story. My father ordered pheasant casserole to be told that they had not got any so he would be having game casserole instead - there was no apology or checking if this would be ok. It was not very big but thankfully he had ordered a side of mashed potatoes and it tasted good. The confit of pork and mushroom and courgette carbonara were both good, however, my husband`s meal was a disgrace. He ordered the full Monty - this was meant to be an 8 oz ribeye steak with chips, salad, tomatoes, mushrooms and onion rings. The tomatoes, onion rings and mushrooms did not appear - the waitress apologised and said it would 10 minutes. We told them it didn't matter and were told they would "knock off a few pounds" - this was the cost for the sides we ordered that did not arrive. The steak was overcooked and was not an 8oz ribeye - it was nothing more than a small piece of frying steak! We were not asked if our meals were ok and when the waitress came to take our plates my husband told her that his meal was awful. She returned from the kitchen to tell us that because he had eaten most of it and hadn't complained when the waitress asked if everything was ok there was nothing they could do. The waitress had not asked us this however they insisted that they had. There was no apology for this food and little more than an accusation that our party were being untruthful about the service we had received. We were made to feel like we were trying to cheat then out of paying for a meal - this was not the case, however we were disgusted to have paid £13 for something so awful. Disappointing end to a fabulous day!

A great place to eat and probably the only place in the area that caters for coeliacs. The staff are friendly and efficient and the pub offers a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.
We always have great food here and it's our first port of call when we have guests.

Visited this pub a few weeks ago great food with a relaxed atmosphere, there is a games room upstairs with the usual pool table and darts etc which passes the time.

The Pub has a dog its a Rototiller but cant remember its name however don't be afraid its as soppy as hell and if you not happy just mention it to the landlord and all is well.

That brings me to the landlord at first glance you will notice a skinhead persona but please, he as an absolute gentleman and will go out of his way to make you feel at home and comfortable all in all a very pleasant place to visit.

PS don't forget to ask about ghost stories from the landlord!!!
