Description: The Red House is a traditional thatched pub set in the beautiful West Berkshire countryside. We pride ourselves on offering Great British Food, complemented by a well-stocked bar full of local beers and and a hand-picked wine list. Chef Patron Laurent has been cooking for over 25 years in brasseries, bars and Michelin-starred restaurants. The pub has a lovely snug bar, a charming restaurant and a beautiful private dining room overlooking the marshes. In the summer our sunny patio and meadow garden provide a perfect opportunity for al-fresco dining or afternoon tea. We look forward to welcoming you to The Red House for a drink, a meal or one of our special events, such as quiz night or curry night. We open at midday and serve food all day, every day of the year.

Lovely warm atmosphere, really good food, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Have visited on many occasions for lunch and dinner. Added bonus you can order from the main menu all day, so if you fancy a very late lunch you still have the full choice after all the other pubs have closed.

Since moving to the area 9 years ago we been to Red House every couple of years and every time it has been a different experience some good and last time some years ago not so good, so today we thought we would try again and we were glad we did. It was very busy for sunday lunch and they politely informed us there would be a wait but that was no problem. We asked for some crisps to keep the hunger at bay, rather than a packet, a basket of crisps appeared which were perfectly delicious, they were home made! The service was friendly and welcoming, the food including roasts, fish and chips and generous children's portions were excellent and the atmosphere was as country pub should be. Great to see the Red House back thriving again. We'll be back.

Lunch this week was one of the best this year - anywhere at any price - menu, service, food especially the food, beer, and value all 10 out of 10. Nondescript wines at silly prices was the only disappointment. We haven't been there for a while but it is now back on the list and hope this time it stays. On the strength of this visit we are hopeful.

Took some clients out for a meal.

Thoroughly enjoyed the steak offer - 2 tasty steaks cooked for individual tastes + nice bottle of wine for £35!

Beef came from a local source just across the border (Wiltshire) - corn fed cattle apparently!

Best steak in AGES !

We were recommended dinner at the Red House for that special occasion from work collegues and have to say it was absolutely spot on in many respects. This is obviously a destination of choice for many given the busy trade on a Saturday night however the service was very attentive and faultless. even though the restaurant was full we were never neglected.

We dined in the bigger and slightly more plush dining room in the back which was very tastefully decorated (equally the bar area which seemed busier was just as pleasing to the eye) along with an excellent selection of local ales which hit the spot. We started with the crab thermidor which had a slight kick of paprika was very delicious whilst my companion had the saute wild mushrooms without the poached egg which came with toast. (A slight gripe the dish could have benefited with the addition of a few mixed leaves to give the dish some body)

For mains we had the pan fried dick breast which was a special with green beans and a side if mash. The duck was beautifully cooked although could have done with a little more jus to accompany the excellent mash. The beans were very over cooked perhaps a touch over excessive use of the microwave here. My companion went for comfort beer battered haddock with chips which was beautifully cooked and very generous in portioning.

For dessert we had the bitter chocolate torte with praline which was nice as well as a very good sticky toffee pudding with a delicious caramel ice cream. I also have to tip a nod to our very excellent waitress who effortlessly served an alternative glass of wine with each meal at the right time, definatly worth her wieght in gold.

Overall a great night out and an excellent experience (save for a couple of culinary niggles.
