Crockham Lodge is a great place for a holiday. It's clean and comfortable and well equipped. The owners are a lovely couple who made us feel very welcome. They were on hand if we needed anything but they had everything covered. There were freshly cut flowers in the cottage which was a nice touch. A very enjoyable stay.
lovely little home away from home there could be more cupboard space for food in the kitchen area but apart from that everything was great. very quiet its couple of miles from Newbury town centre where there are a couple of supermarkets and a retail park there's a couple of Mcdonalds a pizza hut and other food outlets and various other shops the lodge has very comfortable beds best sleep we have ever had.You will need a car due to being in the countryside and being a couple miles from the town centre.
After a long flight that was delayed, we arrived at Crockham Lodge exhausted and late at night. Paul, our host, kindly waited up to let us in, and we were very pleased to see some milk in the fridge so we could have a cup of tea in the morning! Paul and his wife were very friendly and helpful during our stay. The cottage was comfortable for our family of four, and the area is quiet and tranquil. We went for a lovely walk one day around the back of Enborne school, just down the road from the cottage. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for reasonably-priced accommodation in Newbury.
We found Crockham Lodge through tripadvisor and couldn't have been more pleased. The accommodation was warm, comfortable & cozy with everything you might need for a short or longer stay, we spent two weeks and enjoyed it immensely. The location was perfect, in the country but within two miles of town and nearby motorways for longer trips. Paul & Rosemary were very nice and helpful, great hosts.
Crockham Lodge is fast becoming one of our favourite annual breaks.
A perfect place to unwind, cosy, relaxing and very peaceful. Fully equipped cottage with beautiful surroundings.
We will be back again next year, thank you Paul.
On reading the reviews on Crockham Lodge, I must say my first impression was 'Great' the price was good and was local to where we wanted to go.
On arriving at the property, everything seemed good, Paul the owner welcomed us and advised us that there was a squiral in the loft. Ok, we are in the county and these things do happenand so we started to unpack. Unfortunately the squiral did wake is up very early (about 5am) have hardly slept in a very soft and uncomfortable, very old bed. Perhaps the squiral need to go before renting it out again.
The cottage has everything you need albeit dated and as one other review said there is parable too much furniture, but the biggest thing for me is cleanliness and unfortunately this is what let this place down.
There were cobwebs in the doorways, a very musty 'old smell' and we were invaded with blue bottles (flues). Yes, we are in the country but in February? We caught at least 8 in the bedroom within 12 hours of arriving. We live in the countryside too so know that this was excessive.
Utensils and plates etc needed to be washed before using as there was still old dried food on some and the work surfaces and sink were dirty, something that in my opinion shout be checked before letting out your holiday let.
We do about 6 short cottage breaks a year and would have used this place again but unfortunately for us the cleanliness really let it down.
The Lodge is exactly as described and in a very peaceful location. Newbury town center is just 5 minutes drive from the Lodge.
The Landlord, Paul, was friendly and welcoming and I can say we had real good time there.
