Myself and husband visited The Newbury on recomendation, and we were not disapointed ! First the decor, modern, quirky and fresh, very stylish...we had a very warm welcome from staff, genuine and sincere, .the whole team there from bar staff to table staff they were attentive and knowledgable on the choice of wines and current food menu. The food was to die for, we were given some fresh bread from there beautiful bread table (which is all freshly made that day!) For starter I had the mushroom tart with poached duck egg and hollondaise sauce and my hubby had fresh crab tortelleni, the taste were amazing (they make there own pasta too !) and we were not disapointed bursting with flavor! For main I had herb crusted lamb and served with violet puree potatoes the colours and tastes were so good, my hubby had the Turbot with oxtail and again clean plates all round !! The staff were great too, the atmosphere there is so good, relaxed and chilled....We have booked for a return visit already.. Thanks x

Four of us dined at The Newbury on a Friday night. The place was busy and buzzy, so a great atmosphere. Nice bar area in addition to a large but well-spaced restaurant area. Starters were good - guinea fowl & rabbit potato cake, crab tortellini and haddock chowder. Niggle no.1 - the bowls for the crab tortellini were cold and the chowder portion was a bit small. Mains were very good - cod, beefburger, lamb and belly pork. Niggle no. 2 - the plate that the burger came on was also cold. Regarding drinks, a good selection of beers (lagers and 'proper' draft beers) and very good wine list - my head today can attest to the latter as a bottle or three of red went down nicely. Niggle no. 3 - for a couple of the bottles, the bottle was plonked down on the table, without being offered for tasting. To finish, we had a couple of cheese plates between us. The cheese selection was very tastsy - when it eventually turned up (not sure why it took so long to plate up, particularly as this was towards the end of the evening and many diners had left).

Overall, a very good experience, but a few things need tightening up to turn The Newbury into an excellent experience. Despite the small niggles, we will be back.

Me and my husband visited the Newbury recently for the first time and had a great night. The combination of a friendly and fun atmosphere and a great food selection makes it a great dining experience. The lamb dish that i had was out of this world and my husband’s steak was cooked to perfection. We will be definitely be going back there again and would definitely recommend it to our family and friends.

This looks lovely. It is set out, with a nice amount of space between tables . Menu was not as interesting as I had hoped and my vegetarian fellow diner was disappointed at the choices for him. Very nice, willing staff, BUT please do not serve half the table and then make the other half wait. The waiting time was excessive, it was not just a question of running back to grab another few plates. Those with food started to eat and almost finished. We were a table of eight and the kitchen had a struggle coping. Even I can cope with eight meals and I am not paid to be a professional chef. Surely someone could sort this and not start sending the order out if other dishes were still being cooked. It was unacceptable. The odd thing was that the same thing happened with desserts, with half appearing and the others made to wait. Food was fine, when we got it , fries a little undercooked, but other problems have coloured my judgement.Until this is area is sharpened up, poor reviews will happen on a regular basis.

We went to The Newbury the first time for Sunday lunch. It was busy and noisy with several large family parties - prams and young children. For me this took the edge off and although the food is very good it is not fine dining and not the place (Sunday lunch at least) for a quiet meal.

The overnight cooked sirloin joint was fabulous - good meat to start with but this cooking method had it melting in your mouth.

The staff are very friendly and accomodating although when we were there they were hard pressed and there were unexceptable delays getting courses to the table. I will try again during the week to see if efficiency improves. Cannot fault the food though.
