We went to The diamond Tap for lunch on 6th October 2012 and went upstairs to the first floor restaturant. This is waitres served and you order at the table. At this time of day 2.30pm it was fairly quiet. We had the omato and Basil soup, Spricy prawns as a starter followed by the Chicken Tikka. The total cost with soft drinks was £20.58. The food was good and the service efficient. This can be a very busy restaurant and when we have been here on Race days (Newbury Racecourse) there have been a lot people in there. We have been here before and normally the food is good.
This is very much like Wetherspoons following their systems.

This one is notable for having nice, friendly staff. The food never takes long to arrive and it's surprisingly edible (though I've been warned to avoid the sweet chilli noodles). What others have said about the sticky floors is true, but add sticky tables to that as well.

The toilets are nice as far as toilets go, and always seem clean. The general decor is as awful as you'd expect. Sometimes during the week the top floor is sectioned off for meetings or somesuch.

What more is there to say, really? You know what you're getting into.

I've heard people joke about sticking to the floor in clubs and never thought that that was actually possible until last night at The Diamond Tap... A big group of us went to the Diamond Tap last night for a friends Birthday, the drinks are cheap / reasonably priced, quite dark and dingy, the carpets were so dirty you actually stuck to the floor, the tables were all sticky and had empty glasses on them, a group of the girls ordered the fish bowl cocktails and didn't end up finishing them because they weren't very nice...

Good value drinks. quick service and nice staff. Food was ok didn't have to wait too long for order. It seems really dark in the building, was hard to read the menus.

Ate, and had a beer, with friends. Usual Wetherspoons menu, predictable chain pub fare competently produced. Somewhat of a 'gin palace' feel. For better atmosphere and probably better kept real ale, try the other Newbury Wetherspoons, The Hatchet, 100 metres away.
