“Beautiful - More Downton Please !”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Just had a great day at Highclere with my Mother - it was a Christmas present. The grounds and road to and house are stunning. The guides in each open room were approachable and friendly and knew the lot from A to Z! It's been open to the public for 26 years but footfall has increased with the popularity of Downton from 400 a day to 1500 - so please Highclere to satisfy the uncultured but interested - please could we have a dedicated Downton tour and exhibit ? I would love to have taken a few pictures too like many other reviewers - I still don't fully understand the reasons behind that popular ban other than gift shop purchases, which wouldn't be affected at Highclere because the shop is fantastic. Book for next year it's a lovely day out .

“ok”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Visited 5th may 2013, purchased tickets on the day as were many people
so do not have to pre book as it says on website.
The house looks beautiful on the outside. The grounds are lovely. Gardens were abit of a dissapointment, due to the lack of floral displays due to the time of year. House very small and short tour. Fans of Downton Abbey will love as the conversations between people always involved the TV series.
Staff were friendly and car park marshalls very organised.
Would not revisit.

“A good attraction for Downton fans.”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

It was great to see the rooms used from the show, Downton Abbey, although you could not walk into the bedrooms and could only look from the rope at the door. I would have loved to have taken some photographs but no photos are allowed inside the building. However, I got some lovely shots from the outside and the gardens are lovely. Take waterproof shoes if it's a rainy day as the grounds can get a little muddy. The Egyptian museum was okay, but almost all of the artifacts are replicas. Go to Cairo to see the real thing.

“Knocked a point off for the very strict NO PHOTOGRAPHY! Boo!”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Fantastic visit for Downtown Abbey fans! Fab to see some of the rooms from the tv series, which we adore! The guides where very informative and friendly, loved to hear about the "real Earls" and the castle's history.Wasnt rushed at all, which some stately homes are known for. The grounds and gardens are beautiful, ( you are allowed to take photos here but not in the castle) and beautifully kept.
