Fabulous food, great service. Heart and soul is in this food. Everything prepared from scratch with finesse. A lovely team of ladies front of house, including the amazing chefs wife. We love it and have been back time and again.

Thank Sarah H

We have been going to Scarborough for absolutely ages, years!, and it was several years ago that we were advised to go to Lanterna, and for ones reason or another we couldn’t get booked in as they were closed when we went or fully booked, and it is only now we found out why!

Unbeknown to us Jay Rayner of the Obersever and food critic actally beat us to theplace as he went last year, to smaple the delights of Giorgio Alessio who makes zabaglione at the table side a treat in itself.

On arrival we found the restaurant to be quiant and were shown to our reserved table in eth corner, a place wher if you wanted to you could watch all the restauarnt activity before you.

In short the lady asked us ‘hiow we planned the night’ a nice touch as we ordered the wine a very nice and not too expensive bottle of Pinot Grigio, and as I had planned on red I pushed th eboat out and order a Montepuklciano, (with a view to take the remnants back with us – which we did)

My starter Panzerotti al Pomodoro e Basilicoe Ravioli filled with ricotta cheese and spinach with sauce of herbs, I am convinced the herbs were collected that day, they were so fresh.

The other starter was fresh ling in the lightest tempura batter, which I was treated to two heavenly pieces.

My wife went for the Scallopine alla Crema Veal cooked with marsala, mushrooms and cream at £16.50 and being very nice having tried the sauce set aside some for me to try as she described it as exquisite.

The final part was my chosen baked whole sea bass in rosemary, spinach and herbs. The accompaniments of salted wedges and divine carrots, how can you get so emotive about carrots I don’t know, but we did they were a treat to eat.

Whilst Giorgio produces the food his partner Rachel is the master of front of house along with the others who appear to make light work of making it a very enjoyable evening.

Something that was well worth the wait, and defiantly a place to be re-visited., put it on your list I am sure if you like Italian you will not be disappointed.

The outside of Lanterna gives nothing away but on entering you are met by friendly staff and a small intimate atmosphere. Four of us ate here on New Year's Eve and had a wonderful evening. The food is quality and two of us had a fish starter and main course which was wonderfully fresh and on the special selection. We ended the meal with Zabaglioni which the chef cooked at our table. A lovely experience. We were pleasantly surprised at the bill which was more than exceptable for such a special evening.

Like many good places Laterna has produced divided opinions in recent reviews, but it was great to return to old family favourite having not being able to do so in the last few years without being disappointed. Same decor bordering on shabby chic rather than Milan style sophistication. Same front of house staff. More importantly they still do Piedmont style Italian really well, rich creamy sauces and unlike many places these days can both fish and meat well. Like truly ace Italians the vegetables were a joy parsnip couchettes, moreish carrots. However, if you only eat American style fake Italian food this is definitely not the place for you.

This restaurant was recommened by a stallholer in a local market. We had walked past the very same restaurant earlier that day and to be honest, we hardly noticed it! We managed to book a table after looking at their menu and finding out more about the restaurant. It was quite possibly the best Italian restaurant I/ we have ever eaten in - and if we visit Scarborough again, we would definitely dine here again.
