“FANTASTIC - warm, welcoming, friendly, a great place to stay!”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

Well what can we say, another fantastic stay at the Manor Heath Hotel. Ros and Steve always provide a warm and friendly welcome, and we have come to look on them as friends now, even though we have only stayed there a couple of times. The hotel is always spotless, the food is always wonderful with plenty to choose from and you are always made to feel like you are staying in a home from home. Our son absolutely loves staying here and whenever we want a few days away from the stresses of every day living the Manor Heath is always the first place we all think of. We love how accessible it is to so many different places and is within easy reaching distance of home if we had to get back in an emergency but far enough away to be able to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding areas. We would gladly recommend staying here to anyone looking to stay in the area. Ros and Steve, thanks for another great stay, and Callan says Thank You for the Easter Egg ;0)

Room Tip: Family rooms - room 15 is sunnier and offers a little more room.

HI Radicals!! Thank you for your kind comments - it was lovely to see you again. Let's hope Room 15 is available next time you want to stay. Just in case you were wondering, our main hotel photo has disappeared from Tripadvisor for some reason - trying to get it sorted but it may be a few days before we look complete again!!

ros and steve have one of the best small hotels on the east coast.we found it online as parking is a real issue in Scarborough and they offer a spot for your car for free. the rooms are clean, tidy and the service levels are excellent.it was our second time this year we have stayed here and would highly recommend it to all.

This was our fourth visit to the Manor Heath. Once again we had a fantastic, friendly welcome from Ros and Steve, and waitress, Sandra. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable and with fabulous views over Peasholm park. Breakfasts were delicious - plenty of choice - and extras if required. We were happy our car was in their own carpark, so no worries overnight. Altogether a lovely few days - we'll be back again soon.

Room Tip: They're all of the same high quality. We love room 1.

So glad you enjoyed your short stay with us - particularly as we organised good weather for you! Also thanks for your praise concerning our star rating. Unfortunately, the way things are with VB and AA grading at present, we will never be able to attain three stars as a small hotel - they insist on 24 hour reception and telephones in all rooms at that level, which is just not an option for us.

This was my first stay in Scarborough having travelled there for the road race meet at Olivers Mount. My friends had been before and i can see why they keep returning to the same hotel. I travel a lot and in my opinion you cannot beat the value for money and the more personal service of a small hotel or guest house. THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST

The hosts Steve and Ros made us most welcome, the standards set take some beating, great food, spotless rooms and efficient service all come as standard. Look forward to returning next year both the bikes and the hotel have me hooked,

Just returned home having spent a wonderful week at the Manor Heath hotel with my 4 year old grandson Liam. Steve and Ros could not have been more accomodating, having cooked meals especially for him. We had dinner every evening and the food was superb as was the service, same goes for breakfast. The location could not be better with the parks and sea front a short walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was a good size, everywhere spotlessly clean, and so muchh hot water. Most people we spoke to at the hotel had returned year after year which is testament in itself. Already my grandson is asking to go back, which we most certainly will.

Firstly there is no way this can be classed as a hotel, it is very much an overpriced B&B. The owners live in the building and will jump out on you every time you walk in and won’t let you past without a load of chit-chat. It was very clean but our room stank of smoke and all of the corridors had a very overpowering smell of air freshener that will make your eyes water. The rooms are very tiny and the walls so thin that you can hear everything from the other room. The car park is very tight and has a stupid system of forcing you to park in the lowest number available. If you park in a higher number they are straight out telling you to move. If you are unlucky enough to be in space one good luck getting out without scraping along the fence in your way. The spaces are also far to close together to get young children in or out of your car. If you are staying here with young children good luck fitting a travel cot in the one square foot of floor space in the rooms.

Room Tip: Don't try to use a travel cot as room too small.

Oh dear – I am sorry you still felt so upset – two weeks after your stay - that you had to vent your anger on Trip Advisor.
I am not going to apologise on this occasion – as I do not think it is warranted. I will address all your criticisms, though, in the hope that would-be guests can judge for themselves.
1. We are classed as a small hotel – through VisitBritain and graded very comfortably as a two star Small Hotel. This grading details a business usually run on a family basis – and is far more personal than a large hotel, as such. Which brings me on to your second point – although I would say a slight exaggeration – we passed the time of day with you twice before you left – once when you checked in, and again when we saw you in reception – apologies for being friendly but that is a bonus as far as most of our guests are concerned! At the time your husband said you had had a bad night’s sleep because baby Harvey had been awake most of the night – due to rattling of the door??!! I asked if he had been disturbed by the people in the room next door – and he categorically said he had not heard anything. At no time did he complain.
2. You say our hotel was very clean – and then gave us a score of 3 – what do you have to attain in your eyes to get 5? I suspect the smell, which you put down to smoking, was from a new carpet which had been put down – we are very sharp as far as smoking in the rooms is concerned – and I checked the room before you arrived. We do have air fresheners on the landings – on a low setting, again many guests comment on them positively.
3. Admittedly, the room you occupied was not the largest – this was discussed with your husband BEFORE you booked. I explained to him we were very busy and only had one, small rear-facing room available. He asked if it would take a travel cot – I responded it would if it was not a large one. You brought the largest travel cot I have ever seen.
4. We do ask guests to park in the lowest numbered space available – it helps those who arrive later to manoeuvre into the remaining spaces. We never “tell” people to move – we ask, and explain why. We are one of the few hotels in Scarborough with free parking. I do not know an hotel or guest house (or supermarket, even!) which has large enough parking spaces to allow full opening of car doors to remove an infant in situ. Is it so inconvenient to do it and then park?
5. Finally, I am most affronted by your headline “This is a very overpriced B&B – not a hotel”. You booked a two-night stay – when you arrived you said you would not be taking breakfast – we immediately offered a reduction. When your husband said you were leaving early – without warning but around 1pm the next day – because he had finished his work and was tired because Harvey had kept you awake (but no complaints to us) we reduced your second night stay by 50%, because we felt sorry for you. You got a two-night stay for £51 a night – is that overpricing?
I think your ideal accommodation would be a travel lodge – no personality – no breakfast – no car park (not in Scarborough, anyway)!
