“not woth the cash”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

takes 20 mins to walk around, not much care for the animals, they only want cash, you even have to pay to feed them, they should all be closed down, i'll never go again, poor animals

Dear guest
We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback surrounding Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary.
Quite rightly we are proud of the work we do with regards to our breed, rescue and protect programme.
There is an element where guests are invited to partake in a feed demonstration (for a small charge) but we can assure you that this is optional and is done in order to raise additional funds that go towards the rescue and rehabilitation of common and grey seals around the east coast.

Regards

“Over priced and very dirty cafe”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

We came our 2 kids on Wed 7th Nov and paid £33 for our tickets as our 2 kids got in free. After paying I was told that the seals weren't even there. The exhibits were ok and the kids seemed to enjoy it. After wandering around for 45 mins we went upstairs to the cafe. It was 3pm and we were the only people there. There was nobody at the servery but we could hear 2 girls giggling in the kitchen. Finally a girl came out to take our order and when we looked around for a free table we could see that several tables were left with scraps of food and drink all over them. No other customers - two staff doing nothing and filthy tables everywhere. The high chairs were absolutely disgusting with stains all over them. What are the management thinking??? Also the soft play area was filthy. The whole place needed scrubbed. Are there no checks being done to make sure staff are doing their jobs properly. Come on guys there is no need for the place to be dirty.

“Prams not recommended. Voucher needed for cheaper price.”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Really great sea life centre. Variety of animals including octopuses and sharks. Staff knowledgable. Very expensive for such a small place but used 2 for 1 voucher so got half price for 2 adults. Saw prams struggling in tight spaces and in shark tunnel. Next time We will wait till our son and baby (due 24/12) is older as it would be an absolute nightmare pushing pram around.

“Pricey but great attraction”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

We have been to another Sea Life before in Birmingham, and have to say this is far better than Birmingham.

My son particularly enjoyed the outside animals - the seals, otters and penguins and really enjoyed the talks about the otters and seals, and seeing them fed.

There was an excellent range of marine life too, with great interactive tools along with child friendly viewing areas and questions around the centre which when completed result in getting a medal.

The restaurant range is poor though and pricey.

The attraction though is very good - we spent just short of 2 hours here and could have happily spent longer.

If you can look out for one of the Merlin 2 for 1 offers this is worth taking advantage of.

“Great Place for the kids and adults too!!”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Visited with my two children, aged 9 and 6 years respectively on a cold November day. Out of season parking was free, bonus already. I would recommend buying a Merlin Pass because kids then get in free (check out what attractions you are close to before buying though or see which ones you can comfortably visit). Both my children have passes so I only had to pay for me, not cheap but worth every penny.

Great Aquarium with the, now almost required, glass tunnel under the sea walk. This was our second visit here and the 'tasks' for children to complete had changed so plenty to look out for from an educational point of view. The centre has some great exhibits to see and learn about.

The cafe/restaurant appears expensive but the portions are huge so it is actually good value, good coffee too!!

I would recommend this as a place to visit and repeat visits are always different as things change over the year.
