“What a lovely old pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014 via mobile

As the title says, it's a lovely old pub that we found by accident while out geocaching with our young family, great beer and awesome food.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

......after walking a distance along the Cinder Trail this Pub was a good stop off point...the ale was good and also being on a busy Sunday service was prompt....although we only shared some chips the food looked OK and people relaxed...and what a big Pub it is......also it helps having such lovely surroundings.....

“Such a beautiful spot.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

We actually went here to camp (£5 each in the field next door...advance bookings only). We got there shortly after ten and got our tents up. Then we took the lovely walk through National Trust land down to the cove at the bottom. Waterfall pouring out from the forest and loads of rock pools to explore. We climbed back up the hill (somehow taking a different route and ending up at the other side of the pub). Then it was time for a couple of well deserved pints. The pub is traditional inside and not expensive for drinks. The menu looked extensive and reasonably priced (although we did not eat) and the staff were friendly and welcoming. There was a steady stream of cyclists and walkers in and out of the pub all day. A lovely decked area and a garden with an adventure playground for the kids. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. They also provide bed and breakfast if you want your home comforts.

“If it is calories you are after!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

We were seeking something large for my husband to eat after some mad 3 day cycling event. Well we certainly found it. He said the steak was good even if slightly overdone and the entire plateful of accompanying chips and salad disappeared. He was sadly beaten by the onion rings.
The atmosphere was friendly and wish we had had time to explore the location a little more.

“Come on down to The Hayburn Wyke!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014

When holidaying in the area we always make a point of eating here. The location is beautiful. Access is down a winding, wooded access road which opens into a clearing. The Hayburn Wyke is the only building down here and you can walk down to the coast via a waterfall if you wish. Other reviewers have criticised the Hayburn Wyke for being too dark. Whilst it's true that the interior is a little dark, as far as I'm concerned, this is all part of its character. Reviewers have also criticised the service but we have always found it to be friendly and courteous without being overbearing. The food is always good and is freshly prepared. A good selection of vegetables is available or alternatively salad is usually available as an alternative. You can judge the quality of the food by the clientele, which includes "locals" and hard-core cyclists, who value good food and plenty of it.

So in conclusion, if you're the sort of person who likes to dress formally for dinner and make a grand entrance into a venue lit like a football stadium, the Hayburn Wyke may not be for you. But if, like us, and many others, you enjoy good, sensibly priced food with a good ale (Black Sheep, for instance) or bottle of wine (their Pinot Is particularly nice) come on down to the Hayburn Wyke!!
You will not be disappointed!!
